I know they switched to an all metal back. Do we know if there’s possibly Nickel in the casing? I’m having itchy bumps underneath where the Apple Watch sits. I didn’t have this with older models. I’m hoping it’s not because of the metal back and just a contact dermatitis.

Wash watch thoroughly, then put it on the other wrist for a day or two.
Do the itchy bumps appear on new side?
If no, watch probably had salt (your sweat) or some other agent creating reaction.
If yes, you may be allergic to the new back.

It can also be a reaction to something from the production process, that’s still on your watch. I remember that when I unboxed my watch it smelled chemically. So I cleaned the watch before use, as I have a very difficult skin that reacts to such things often.

I think there always was nickel in the watches. In the band release buttons etc But it’s only a tiny amount, because of the strict European rules for nickel. I remember reading this on the Apple website.

Thanks. I’ll give it a thorough wash. There’s strict European rules about nickel? Would that apply to the back?

If I buy a cheap belt I have a reaction to the nickel plating on the buckle

That’s really annoying when you react to nickel! Nickel is in a lot of products, even food.

I hope you can figure out what causes it. Hopefully it’s fixed when you cleaned it!
