I am trying to send money from my Apple Pay Cash card, to my bank using instant transfer. However, when I go to verify the transaction using FaceID, a red exclamation point comes up (where normally the checkmark comes up when FaceID verifies the transaction) and then I get a message saying "Apple Pay Cash Unavailable: Apple Pay services are currently unavailable. Please try again later."

I checked the "Apple System Status" page and it says Apple Pay is available.

If any tries this and it works or does not work, could you please let me know so I can figure out if this is something with my account, or maybe Apple Pay is having some (minor) issues, just not down completely.

I am in the United States, and in New York State. Thank you for your help in advance!

Yes, I am having this same exact problem with Apple Cash instant transfer. The billing address matches, and funds are available, so I am not sure what the problem is. Regular transfers (1-3 days) work just fine. I am also in US/New York. Odd.

I called Apple Support yesterday and talked to a support agent. After doing some basic troubleshooting with him, which did not work, he connected me to their banking services department (which I believe goes through GreenDot) and they confirmed that Apple Cash instant transfer is down, and have no timeline for it being back online. Regular transfers (1-3 days) are working fine for me as well. Just curious why if Apple/Green Dot knows there is an issue they couldn't at least update the system status page with an asterisk, stating that Apple Pay is up except for instant transfer or something similar?

Ah, thanks for the info. Good to know that it's a known issue. Yes, you'd think that the error message would be more specific, or at the very least, they'd update the system status page!

Yes, you would think a company like Apple would update the system status page, but maybe because Green Dot does the actual transactions they are not updating for whatever reason? I honestly have no clue?

I have not even tried instant transfer today, because I did the regular transfer and the funds were put in my account the next day. Have you tried instant transfer again today?

I find it odd that we are the only people having this issue (we cannot be the only people using instant transfer) and reporting it. I feel like more people would have replied to this thread, or created their own posts, but I searched the forum and Google before I even made this thread to see if this was a known issue. Anyway, if you try it out and it works please post back and let me know, and I will do the same for you. Good evening.

I wish Apple had partnered with Zelle instead of Greendot. Zelle has instant transfers down, and you'd also be able to send/receive money to/from anyone, instead of just other iMessage users.

I tried yesterday, and I tried again just a few minutes ago - same error. Shocking that it is taking such a long time to fix this issue as this is one of the main features of Apple Pay Cash.

Just tried again today... same error. If the issue is with GreenDot, it's shocking that Apple is dealing with such incompetence for such a high profile new feature in their cash/pay services business (leading up to Apple Card). They are probably keeping it quiet so that people don't lose faith in their entry into this market.

Thanks for the update, I had not even tried since the last time because I was forced to transfer all my money off my ApplePay Card using regular (1-3 day) transfer. This is getting concerning now, I mean, I don't care if it is GreenDot or Apple who's fault it is...I just want it acknowledged and obviously fixed. This is very weird because I could not find any article about this, so it is either effecting a very, very small percentage of customers and Apple does not feel the need to say anything OR (and more likely) it is what you said. They do not want people to lose faith over their entry into the market, especially as you said with the launch of Apple Card coming up relatively soon.

I might give Apple Support a call again, and see if anyone can tell me what is going on. It has been down a week today, unacceptable!

I was just curious. you guys are using a Visa debit card right? I was just reading the apple support page and it said that it only work with visa debit card. I'm only asking because my friend was also having issue with instant transfers, but he problem turned out to be that his debit card by his bank was a Mastercard

Yes, I have a Visa debit card. I had used instant transfer several times since it became available and then a week ago yesterday it just stopped working out of the blue.

For some reason I am getting an error message trying to edit my my last post, so here is an update:

I called Apple, they had me go through the basic troubleshooting...make sure my billing address matched what was on my bank statement (it did obviously)...turn Wallet off and back on...did absolutely nothing.

Next, Apple transferred me to GreenDot and they were useless. Had me make sure my address matched just like Apple did. The lady said that since my last call the problem should have been fixed. I pressed her on that, and said: "Well what do you mean "should" have been fixed? Can't you look in your system and see if the problem is fixed or not? It should be a yes or no answer."

She just responded with the same "should" have been fixed and asked for screenshots of when I get the red exclamation point when I try to verify with FaceID and then the error message I get when that screen goes away that says "Apple Pay Cash Unavailable: Apple Pay services are currently unavailable. Please try again later." I got both screenshots and then she gave me an email to send them to, and gave me a case ID number to put in the subject line. She told me that someone would be getting ahold of me within 1-3 days...blah, blah, blah!

In my opinion, they have zero clue what is going on and God only knows when this will be fixed. I had someone send me two dollars to keep on my Apple Pay Cash card so I can periodically try instant transfer and see if it is back up. Ten days down is pretty crazy! Wish I had better news, but I will surely keep you updated, please keep me updated...thank you.

They do not seem to understand (and I tell them) that I can transfer money absolutely fine using the regular 1-3 day method, which you would think, would let them know that my account is setup correctly and it is something on either Apple or GreenDots side! My money is on it being GreenDot for sure!
