Anyone else having issues with Photoshop going "Not Responding"?

Haven't done any photoshop work in 9 months or so. In that time, I updated the MacBook Pro to Big Sur and went from CS5 to an Adobe Subscription. Just tried to launch Photoshop 2021 this evening and the splash screen appears and then disappears to 'Home Screen' but that screen doesn't populate, just stays black and grey. Shortly thereafter the spinning beach ball appears and Photoshop appears as "Not Responding" in the Force Quit Application window.

When I do tell it to force quick, just before Photoshop closes, I do see part of the Home Screen appear before the application shuts down. I have left it in the non-responsive state for over 10 minutes without any luck. Could this be a permission thing? Is Big Sur doing some kind of check since this is basically the first time I have launched Photoshop 2021? Anyone see or experience this before?

Lightroom Classic and the Creative Cloud program both seem to work fine.

That issue with the home screen appearing before the app shuts down sounds like a problem with program access, i.e., Photoshop itself registering that you are a paid subscriber. First, have you logged in online to your Creative Cloud account to verify that your subscription for both Photoshop and Lightroom went through (sounds as though Lightroom has) and are valid in Adobe's records? That would be the first place to start. If your Photoshop subscription is confirmed, then you need to call Adobe (or email them), as it sounds like an accessibility issue with Adobe's Creative Cloud Manager, whose icon is/should be in the upper right of your screen. I would also clear your Adobe browser cookies and cache in Safari (under Preferences, Privacy, Manage Website Data). Last, Creative Cloud just had a big update last week, so that is something else to check.

Thanks for the reply Dana. I was coming at it from a program issue, not from a registration issue. Creative Cloud is running and I used it to check if my Photoshop version was the most current.

I used Creative Cloud to start trying old versions of Photoshop and found that 22.3.1 works... I don't know exactly what is up with 22.4 / 22.4.1 and my MacBook Pro but it doesn't like it.

Huh, so my MBP updated yesterday to Big Sur 11.4 so I decided to allow creative cloud to update PhotoShop to 22.4.1. And while this time it opened a .jpeg file, I still got the spinning beachball and not responding when I clicked into the window... I had in the back of my mind that 11.4 might fix this but now I think I need to let Adobe know...

One thing you might try. I you can get Photoshop to launch to the point where you can get to the Photoshop Preferences. Go to Performance>Advanced Settings and make sure Open CL is deselected and restart.
