Besides having great hardware and a simple design , I'm glad that some parts can actually be changed by the end user.

Impressed:
Very powerful in a very small package. Pricing is good for what you get. Beautiful inside and out.

Depressed:
I prefer internal drives rather than external. I like PCIe. I don't like the dual GPU situation where you are forced to buy two of them even if one would suit you. Pricing sucks if you can't take advantage of dual Fire Pros. The GPU upgrade options are going to be extremely limited and expensive, assuming they can be upgraded at all. Number of CPU sockets and memory slots has been halved.

I'm just not the target audience for the nMP. I understand why other people like it.

I would have been impressed if it was a tower model like the 5.1. But it was a non upgradeable trash-can, so I'm depressed. ;)

The nMP has a new form factor for GPUs and SSD. It is logical that new parts will not be available by launch. Besides, no sane person would buy a workstation-class computer in order to upgrade it only a few days later.

If after a year or two, there are still no upgrades available, then it is another story.

Replace "sane" with "rich"?

A lot of folks on a budget are going to buy the cheapest model and upgrade "a few days later" to get around the premium prices Apple charges for each incremental upgrade (at least for memory).

Let's not call those pieces upgradeable, then, until upgrades can be purchased. ;)

Memory is upgradeable from day #1, also from 3rd party too. CPUs also (although not officially). But I don't think the lack of GPU upgrades are a problem right now. Nobody buys a workstation with the intention to change the GPUs one week after delivery. As I said before, one or two years later, the story will change, though.

That's fair. I won't call it upgradeable, but I won't call it the opposite, also. Not just yet.

I called it "replaceable" - not "irreplaceable". ;)

There are Mac parts sites. Sometimes these sites charge a premium for replacement parts, but sometimes the prices are reasonable. I would guess that they will eventually have replacement parts for the 6,1 models as well.

I am not sure if they only sell to certified techs or not, but it is in my near-term professional plans.

That site doesn't even have a link for "mac-pro-tube-parts".

It's not upgradeable if you can't buy the parts to upgrade it.

That should be really obvious.

I'm glad to see Apple realising that lower power usage will be essential in the future, not limited to mobile. Our laptops are already incredibly power efficient, time will come when our workstations will be as well. I want to see the days of being able to charge a laptop and use it for a year. I hope in a decade or so, the workstations we use will have 50W power supplies.

Yes! That's the very first thing I always upgrade. Imagine how much more powerful it is with a 10 Ga. Wire :D
Hmmm does that mean an upgraded power cable to supply high powered 60 hz out of the wall into the tube is how you get to a 60 Hz refresh rate on a 4K monitor?

I'm impressed by the small form factor.
I'm depressed by the fact that I don't need the small form factor.

The new MP is an amazing and beautiful design.
Most of the "amazing" comes from how small they made it.
Kudos Apple!

For me, the smallness is not necessary.
I've got room for a large box of a computer.

I'm depressed that this new box is even less "user-upgradable" than the 5,1.
Now we are stuck with Apple proprietary GPUs and forced to buy two.
If a new great GPU comes out, how long before it will be ported to the new mP?

The new mP seems to be even more shut off from state of the art developments than the old mP.
