Anyone else looking at their MBP as "old"?

I'm typing this on my new iPad and am looking at my 17" MacBook pro and wondering "why isn't every device like this?" Sure the keyboard takes some getting used to. But I'm typing on it almost as fast as I do with my MacBook pro. Aside from the fact that I still need my 17" powerhouse to edit my shows, this thing has replaced it almost entirely. Safari is a dream to use on this thing and feels so natural. Being able to touch your content feels just right. Using a mouse after an hour of the iPad feels archaic to me...its very weird. And I was a complete skeptic when this thing was released in January. I gaze at the MBP and wonder when we'll get a 17" multitouch screen to replace the keyboard and trackpad....the ultimate laptop.
 
My 17" MBP is sitting on the ottoman. I really digging surfing on the iPad. My only complaint is that the keyboard is going to take time to get used to.
 
The iPad is a nice device and a great toy. It's no replacement for my MBP at all. While I do like my iPad, it's still a large iPod Touch and still limited by the iPhone OS. I'd agree with Steve Jobs when he said it was something in-between an iPhone and computer. It's a replacement for neither, just something else altogether.
 
Im thinking more along the lines of execution. Yeah, this isn't going to replace my MBP for power tasks, but it's already replaced it for web surfing, email, etc in a way I never imagined. And I'm starting to prefer the virtual keyboard. The real strong point are the publishing apps and the Internet experience....
 
I have to agree. Browsing the web on this is by far the best browsing experience on any device. It's replacing my laptop for most tasks.
 
I recently just purchased both a mbp and a iPad both are amazing devices but i have to admit the ipad is more fun to surf the net with! Thanks apple!!

I've mentioned before - I coincidentally have a powerful new HP desktop coming - it shows up via UPS tomorrow. i7-930, 9gb, 2tb etc etc.

I had planned to use it for power computing and some specific applications that need native Wintel software and hardware, and my 13" MacBook 2.4GHz aluminum for mobility. At that time, I was not planning to get an iPad.

Early reviews, most importantly Mossberg's, caused me to suddenly lean Friday toward getting an iPad ... and this caused a chain reaction of thinking through my gadgets.

It may have the perverse effect of leaving my household devoid of MacOS computers - because I am thinking of selling the MacBook, using the desktop for power computing, and the iPad for mobile computing.

The iPad may also replace my Kindle 2, and the desktop (using Boxee and HDMI to my TV) may replace my Apple TV. I see some advantages in consolidating gadgets, but ... I really like my MacBook! I really like my Kindle! I really like my Apple TV! So I'm not sure.

I'm sure there will be a place for all of them, no need to throw them out. Just use them when they're more convenient than the iPad. Sure, it may not be often, but if you just want to sit out on your porch and read perhaps grab the Kindle, etc.

The iPad will take over most, but not 100%. Only 95%. ;)
 
Yep. I have a 24" iMac and a recent MacBook Pro. Haven't touched them since I got the iPad and I envision using them a lot less. I can already see up to 90% of my web surfing will be on the iPad. It really does feel old when I go back to using a mouse and keyboard now. I'm surprised at how fast I can type on the screen keyboard too (in landscape mode). I wouldn't want to write a novel with it, but it's more than adequate for email, web, etc.
 
Yes, my MBP is old and I don't even need an iPad to tell me that. Enough Apple, get the frickin new MBPs out!
 
I think it just points to the fact that Apple needs to integrate the iPad functionality into the macbook series by making the screen a touch screen, but with a keyboard and full OS X.
 
I'm with you - multi-touch MacBooks are the future:

I absolutely love this iPad, I was extremely skeptical about it at first but after using it for a few hours it really has become a great little device that I don't think I could live without. Now granted it won't replace my desktop but as I type this reply I'm in bed. The great thing about this device is the portability and the performance. Surfing the web is a blast and this device actually makes reading fun again. I can absolutely say that the iPad replaces my laptop for the simple tasks such as checking email, web surfing, music, movies, tv shows and putting together a quick document using iWork.
 
Different tools for different jobs. iPad is cool for content consumption. Not so good for content creation.

For surfing the web, some e-mailing, playing with apps, electronic picture frame, reading an e-book, watching a movie up-close... definitely... the iPad is awesome for that. And for the person who only needs that capability... cool!

But there's no way I would give up my MBPro for iPad, for the forseeable future. Getting down to doing a lot of things, creative content, graphics, photo work, document creation in an efficient manner, file, image, and document management... that's where you'll still want a desktop or at least a laptop.

For myself, I still need a powerful desktop, and a powerful laptop, and an iPad would be a wonderful addition indeed, but won't replace anything.
