Er... you can still jailbreak your iPhone with the pawnage tool and use installer.app! If thats what you mean...

Not to mention that a quarter of the apps in App store are free!

... You previously downloaded for free in installer? :(

I enjoy supporting fellow developers. The iPhone developer program is not free. Their time is not endless nor free as well. If they want to charge for their app, so be it. A fair number of them seem more polished than the jailbreak version.

Yer the Pwnage 2.0 tool now has some non feeware apps in it to

Personly i **wouldnt** jailbrake the 2.0

Its good enough

i think even some of the jailbreak apps now cost money which i believe the op is referring to

such as apps for unlocking iphones

Dunno about any 'hacks' that cost:confused:

But for the latter, Id wait for the ZiPhone (just a pun, I've no intention to unlock mine!)

Even before 2.0 and the app store there were apps on installer that you had to pay for if you wanted the full version. Most were free but just like the app store the better ones you had to pay for. Of course most of those were hacked and put on installer for free.

this thread is silly

the most money 99% of the people out there will spend on an app is like $9.99

it's not the end of the world

you guys might have a spare $80-$90 to spend on used old app's but I don't,
I'd rather buy some new ones

And dont talk to me about getting not getting paid, I make freeware myself and I dont put a price on it, I would never charge something that was previously free, They should do it for the luv of it

Well, you could have been more specific in your complaint above. You sounded like you were mad because you suddenly had to buy apps at all.

It is sad when a developer pulls a free app and only supports a paid app now (iSquint is an app that was promised to be free, but then they went to a paid app. You can still get iSquint for free, but it's no longer being updated AFIK).

And sometimes I've seen real sleazy situation where they'll bait you with a free app, then change something so you have to pay for similar functionality. It's one reason I dislike web apps, because it's so easy for a company to 'discontinue' a web app and leave you with nothing (even when you've been paying for it).

Good for you. But some people need to pay the bills with the work they do, so they charge for it. And like I said, the jailbroken version vs. the app store version is not always the same. Some apps still remain free but their functionality is much improved.

Just because you make freeware doesn't mean everyone else should. This situation is basically like having a 1.0 and a 2.0 of an app, and saying "oh, they didn't charge for 1.0, why the hell are they charging for 2.0?!". If you don't like it, don't buy it.

No I'm not.

There are plenty of free apps to choose from.

The only thing i don't like is not being able to try an app before I buy it. It's pretty much a shot in the dark right now.

What are you talking about? I make software for a living, ie i get paid for it. It's a job. People don't fix your car for the love of it, chef's who love to cook still take your money at their restaurant, what world do u live in?
