Anyone else relieved after they found out 8GB was enough?

I remember when it was first announced, I knew that I wanted to buy it...but the thing that bothered me was having that beautiful large screen and roughly 7.3GB of space for videos, music, and pictures. But after I began to use it along with iTunes, I noticed that it didn't really matter how many GBs it had, it just depended on my responsibility to load it with only the media that I actually needed.

I think we're all spoiled by our iPods with dozens of GBs, do we really need all that space...especially when it increases the sizes of the players and limits their usability in rougher situations such as atheltics?

I think 8 Gig is plenty.
You're not going to sit there and load that many songs or movies to watch on your phone. Its more than enough of space I think.
I got 5 movies on my Iphone and about 120 of my favorite songs, about 100 pictures and theres still 4 gigs empty.

I also thought I'd be disappointed with only 8 gigs - but it is enough. My 60GB iPod now powers the car stereo full time - with all my music on it . On the iPhone, I keep an on-the-go couple hundred songs, all my photos from the last year, a few photo albums and several dozen videos - as well as a current editing project or two, with room to spare.

I agree on the music side. I just had to spend some time working on my playlists, which I needed to do anyway. I do wish it had a bit more space for tv shows and movies, since I travel every week for work. I also need a case with some velcro or sticky tape with which you can hang the iPhone from the back of the seat in front of me.

Tried that, actually, with my video ipod. The stand goes on the tray, which means you are looking down. My neck got pretty sore watching The Empire Strikes Back that way. Someone needs to invent a way to hang the iPhone from the back of the seat in front of you, at eye level. Hard to do, since some seats are cloth and some are fake leather, and sometimes the seat in front of you is reclined into your nose. If they could throw in a way to push the seat in front of you forward about 12 more inches, that would be great too.

I totally agree. Initially I thought, damn, if only there was more space but after taking the plunge and realistically thinking about what do i really need on a daily phone. 8gb is more than enough for me.

I had the same experience with the iPod video folding case. But short of a seat redesign or intruding on the space of the seat holder, I'm stumped as how to mount a device on a seat back.

Someday, there will be a hardware Ggle we'll have mounted on our faces.

Then they'll find a way to put it inside our heads.

I was going to get a 8GB but i got the last phone in the store which happened to be a 4GB. But yes, 4GB was enough for me.

In my recent travels, I found the 8GB iPhone more than enough for everyday use. I had 4 movies loaded, and my favorite play lists. I still travel with my 60gb iPod for the benefit of hotels tha use the iHome docking stations...

if only the iPhone had some...mechanism or program which would allow it to connect to other computers around the world where they had music or photos or even videos!

You could then connect to these other computer networks wirelessly and then see what they had without using up any of the 8 gigs!

This "internet" as I have called it, would allow you to listen to music (seeqpod) or view movies (youtube) or whatever your heart desires.

I know I know, this is crazy talk, but trust me, one day it'll happen and then you'll come and say "hey sobe, you were right way back when!"

And I will just knowingly smirk, nod, and walk away.

On a flight later today (flight #5 this week), I am going to take a piece of string and try to loop it through my iPhone case and then around the little hook that holds the seat tray up -- the hook originally designed (but never used for) hanging a jacket. I think it will work, I'm just worried that if the person in front of me is one of those who reclines their seat back without the courtesy of a look first, my iPhone could go flying.

It's about though when you think "I want to listen to that song, I haven't heard it in a year or two," and it being on the phone. With limited capacity, it might not be on the phone.

I purchased my iPhone on June 29th at an ATT store... they only had 4GB in stock when I got there, so I got it.

As it turns out, I'm perfectly fine with the 4GB. I don't really use the iPod part of the phone that much, but I constantly use the email, web, and widgets.

For me, 8GB would have been overkill, and $100 out of my pocket.

/(for folks that travel a lot, or commute via train, etc... yeah, the 8GB would be a better choice)

Yep, and since I dont listen to any Brittney Spears type crap, odds are I'll want to listen to a song that several years old.

As it is, 8GB is fine for me. Coming from a 4GB Nano, it's more than enough. Now, if you could actually mount the iPhone as a removable drive... it'd be nice if there was a 20GB model. Anything over 20 would just be rediculous for a phone IMO because at that point there's better solutions out there for what you're probably using the phone for. Admittedly, already paying $600 for an 8GB model, even if there was a 20GB model, I don't think I'd wanna fork over any more money for the higher capacity version. The 8GB, in my eyes, is a nice compromise between capacity and price.

Agreed! Thank you!!! I simply created a playlist for my iPhone. I never really used my video iPod, so I sold it. Sure, I loaded my iPhone with videos initially, but I eventually removed them b/c I don't have time to watch videos on-the-go. PLUS, it is a PHONE primarily. It has a iPod secondarily. Why people can't get this through their head, and want to put the iPhone down for not having 800,000 GBs when their own cells have maybe 256MB without expansion cards, I do not know.

8 Gigs is more than enough for me, especially since the ipod part of the iphone was not the main reason why i purchased the iphone. I cant see myself filling up all that memory anytime soon. Especially since i still have my macbook and ipod, i still have to use thoes gadgets for something, haha.

8gb is plenty here. Considering that I've only filled about 30gb of my 60gb iPod anyway!

I have two "sync modes" that I use ...

First is my general, around town/work/home mode. I have a playlist called "iPhone Normal Playlist" that has about 1,000 songs loaded into it. When I have that playlist sync'd, I also keep 2 movies sync'd, plus the last 1 episode of a couple TV shows and about a dozen podcasts.

However, when I travel, I change my profile around in just a few minutes to reflect my different needs when I'm on the road.

I unselect the "normal" playlist, and then select my "iPhone Travel Playlist" which is much lighter on music -- only about 250 of my favorite songs (out of the original 1,000). This frees up enough room, so that I can change the video sync to the last 3 episodes of my TV shows and podcasts ... which is how I like to spend my downtime while traveling, catching up on those.

It takes all of a minute or so to check or uncheck a few boxes to make this change, but the profile and usage of the device totally changes as a result!
