First off im 3gs with 3.0.1. I was just running the tethering hack from http://help.benm.at/help.php. Today i added the real 5.5 through the terminal/itunes to bypass 3.1. and i now have MMS and tethering... I can post a vid tomorrow if no one belives me. But does anyone else have this?

I have it as well. Same setup. Works great. no 3.1 for me anytime soon. woot!

I have the same setup, and whole i have the tethering option, I cant seem to get my computer to connect to the phone properly. Maybe you can help

I click on the bluetooth icon on my MBP and it asks to search for devices.. it finds my iphone, and it shows that it is connected to be used as a networking device.. AWESOME!! But then when i go to my wireless icon at the top of the screen, the iphone does not show as a source of a network or internet.. I have also tried this via USB and it also did not work.. Did i miss a step somewhere

I have tethering from the 5.1 AT&T .ipcc. It was intended only as an MMS enabler, but somehow Tethering came online and I've used it since.

MMS, Tethering and Visual Voice Mail work flawlessly.

Sorry i haven't tried the bluetooth tethering yet but i know the USB was working after i tested it. This awesome so glad i didn't upgrade.

What are we gonna get charged for tethering? Can AT&T tell if we are already tethering without a plan?

The could, if you abuse it. If your bandwidth usage spikes, they will know. If you're careful, you can fly below the radar.

Well, I found a link someone posted yesterday and went to get MMS working, even though I already had tethering working but no MMS via the benm carrier update. I don't even care about MMS, but I had to try it. And sure enough, it broke my damn tethering. The option was there after the first reboot, but when I plugged it into my Mac to see if it would indeed tether, the menu item disappeared. So it seems like it does something when it talks to my Mac to disable the tethering.

However, I went back to benm today and applied the updates. Now I have both MMS and tethering working again. Happy days.

FYI, I'm on 3.0.1 jailbroken on a 3G

I think 3.1 requires signed carrier files. Until Devteam / someone else figures out how to sign them then there will be no tethering on 3.1

Woo Hoo i thought i lost tethering forever my stupid gf updated my carrier file so she could send mms to me and i though i lost tethering so ive been pissed.

Well i use the internet quite a bit already just with the phone itself, so how will they know the difference?

I have to re-pair my bluetooth every day, this is what I do. I remove the unpaired macbook off my iphone by touching the arrow and selecting "forget this device". Then I go to my macbook and remove the iphone from my bluetooth settings as well. Then I go to bluetooth setup on my mac and pair the phone and computer again. this works for me everytime. I am sure there is an easier way but like I said, this works for me. Hope this makes sense.

by the way, I'm on 3.0.1 with carrier 6.0.

I do.

3GS, OS 3.1, itunes 8.

The Benm hack still tethers (I'm posting this from a bluetooth tether right now) and I updated my carrier file to 5.5 using instructions found here so MMS works.

I'm not going to update my current setup until benm comes up with a 3.1 solutions...tethering is too important for me.

how can I get tethering to work on XP?? It works fine on my other Vista laptop, but when I try to run it on my XP laptop it fails to install

I used to have tethering with the hack, but I've just checked and it's not there. Is this down to 3.1?
