If not, have you found a good alternative for a later IOS?

With IOS 9.1 being released today, the iPhone 6s is mighty tempting. I'm thinking a JB won't be too far behind. Hopefully a reasonable BiteSMS substitute will eventually follow. I mainly just need Quick Reply / Quick Compose. Has Apple's QR gotten any better since its first iteration, or does it still suck?

There is Couria for QR/QC and Columba is a paid tweak that attempts to emulate BiteSMS. But Bite has not worked since iOS 7. The main dev quit and the company is in disarray.

Note that neither of the two tweaks I named above are working in iOS 9 yet.

If you do a search here for BiteSMS you can find out all the details (or most of them anyway).

Thanks. I read most if not all of the threads on BiteSMS (RIP). I guess I'll hold out for one of these two alternatives when they get updated. I haven't heard of Columbia. Anyone else use / like it? How is Apple's QR these days?

Apple's QR isn't too bad. It works, but that's it

You still need to enter the app if you want a context of the chat history. And bummer that there's no quick compose
I've tried couria (iOS 8) but it was too slow/laggy on my iPhone 5 so I ended up uninstalling the tweak

I still have yet to find a quick compose/reply tweak that worked just as well as biteSMS did. I liked being able to compose messages from the icon on the bottom right corner of notification center

I recently updated to the iPhone 6S, so I might give couria another try when it gets updated for iOS 9

Have you ever used Columba? If yes, what was your experience with the tweak?

I remember when it first came out, there were many users complaining about the tweak being very buggy and slow and I must have forgotten about that tweak entirely when I eventually went up to 8.4 from 7.1.2

Apple's QR is adequate. It allows you to respond - a basic feature of quick reply.

Columba is one dev's attempt at replicating BiteSMS. I could never get the QR portion working on the lockscreen though (where it pops up like BiteSMS). Always caused a respring. So I had to set it to native. Which kind of defeated the purpose.

Couria, combined with another tweak I had the put a "Call" button alongside the "Reply" button on the lockscreen was also adequate.

Neither solution was BiteSMS, sadly.

Yes, I bought it. Based on the strength of the QR feature where it popped up like BiteSMS. Unfortunately, while that worked on the homescreen it always crashed on the lockscreen so I had to set it to "Native". Which kind of defeated the point. I went back and forth between Couria and Columba, depending I guess, on which one was frustrating me the least at any given time.

Damn, that's a bummer. It's hard to believe that arguably the most popular jailbreak tweak of all time was never revived; must have been a pretty good revenue stream during its heyday. Or perhaps too many people were too cheap to shell out the $8.95 to make the ads go away...

Well, my sense of it all is that the dev knew everything. When he walked away that was pretty much the heart of the company. Since the code was never public domain anyone else attempting this has had to work from scratch on their own.

I applaud the Columba dev because he got this far without knowing anything from BiteSMS other than having used it. He had plenty of help with beta testers as well. I think though with all the changes in iOS it's just more difficult now.

I remain optimistic that BiteSMS or some other, possibly better form of it, will return at some point. How or when, who knows.
