Anyone else use windows on bootcamp more than OSX?

If one plays games most of the time, then it is likely they will use Windows more often, as that's all it's good for imo.

A friend of mine actually bought an iMac 17" for the Apple design. He doesn't use Mac OS X at all.

I use OS X more than XP. This is my first Mac, and I'm enjoying how fast OS X boots, how it doesn't nag me about firewalls, virus-scanners and updates, and how pretty it looks (of course ).

I think I'll only be using XP for games.

Well I found the opposite. I installed Bootcamp, had fun installing windows , and that was it. Only used it once or twice... so eventually got rid of it. Waste of 10GB I say. I'm interested to see what Leopard will bring so might give it another shot then.

The real reason is not so much games, but the fact that it default boots windows!

Also, I have two computers...you must keep this in mind. I take summer classes so I use the IBM for notes and learning. Then I come home to this silver macbook pro on my desk and play video games.....


I am restarting my computer right now...I feel bad.

Nice to see more Mac users coming frm Nottingham. We sell Macs at work, (John Lewis, free 2 year guarantee), and have noticed increased interest since MWSF.

I'm a parallels man myself. Got XP installed and rarely use it, (only for experience and knowledge of parallels). Currently getting Fedora Core 5, (for my PC but possibly also Parallels), Vista and trying to get hold of Microsoft Bob for a laugh, (drunken parallels fun).

Macs are for OSX.

Now that is something you don't see everyday. A PC for school and a mac for games. Since we are talking crazy ideas (like a MBP for PC games ) I say sell both of them, grab a MB in black and a game console or 3... and a decent 5.1 sound system to go with it.

Or go for a run.

Still, who would believe we'd be talking games on a Mac?!

I didn't use bootcamp but installed XP in Parallels. I find I use it only to show friends and family that they don't have to give up their windows applications if they buy a Mac, and for the occasional game of Civ II.

I really can't think of anything else I need it for. Everything else I can do in OS X. In fact I'm thinking about saving my 10GB or so disk space and removing it. And that's from someone who's used Microsoft OSs since MS/DOS days. I'm not a gamer though, especially since marriage and kids take up most of my free time (that I'm not on MacRumors).

I have a few systems.

Back home, where I lived for most of my life ( I am away at college) I have my server. FreeBSD Dual 2.8ghz with 2gig ram raid0 with two 250gig hard drives, basically my production server. dns(50 zones, 40 primary 20 seconary), mail, irc (private), www (30 sites), nfs, has two cheap "windows only" capture cards running two x10 cams for my house. This is a rackmounted 4u box on a 8foot rack in our office. Then I have one workstation I left there with Gentoo and Mac OS X on it. 1.5/1.5 sdsl with a full class C, yes, I was delegated a full class C, don't ask How

Here in Monterey - Currently business cable (8mbit/1mbit) with 5 static IPs, soon to be a 2.3/2.3 sdsl.

Here I have a Dell Inspiron 9100 with a 2001fp and a 24inch widescreen, running tri-boot MacOS, Gentoo and Windows XP, also a raid setup. Then I have a FreeBSD server I use for different stuff, file server, experimental box, etc. And, my baby, my MacBook Pro.

I love OS X!
O yeah, I have Windows XP, and Gentoo running via Parallels and virtue. It runs fast enough for me, and I don't have to dual boot. It also gives me the ability to turn them on and off whenever I feel the need. The pause feature is also very nice as well.

Well this is my first ever Mac. I had never even seen Mac OS before buying a 17 MBP Pro. I purchased it to run XP, but so that I could try out MAC OS when I fancy.

So now partitioned with 90Gb for XP and 20GB got Mac OS, because MAC can read the Windows files easily (e.g. music, pictures etc).

Had a flirt around with MAC OS and of course some stuff I like and some stuff I don't but for now my priority is to ensure that I have Windows XP for my actual work!!

Also I dont like the thought that with Rosetta stuff is gonna run slower in Mac OS. So will spend 6-12 months maybe playing with Mac OS when I have time or bored etc, and then when they can do this instant switching (virtualisation) and the software runs without Rosetta I can use more perhaps.

i think the OSX can use more than that. Actually it needs a bit more space than just 20 GB. 30GB IMO will be the right amount. OSX it self takes 15GB(OK 8 GB if you do custom install and leave out the stuff you dont need). So I think it`d be better to increase that amount to atleast 25gigs even if you dont use it too much. Why arent you using OSX, BTW. Just open 10 windows in OSX and try using expose with hot corner enabled. You`ll never go back to winblows once you see what happens next(xcept when you need XP for work/games maybe).

Yes, my development environment of choice is Visual Studio.NET and my game of choice (WoW) gets about 10-15fps more under windows so that's where I stay 95% of the time.

I boot over to OSX and compile the Mac versions of my products and have all the packaging done via scripting under OSX.

MY friednd isn't using OSX on his new MBP, only XP. He's only using it for games though. Photoshop and Macromedia are installed on the OSX side, but he just doesn't need them as he's not at uni again until next September.

For a long time Windows user it might be a little difficult to adjust at first. But once you get a grip on OSX you`ll definitely like it(if not fall in love). I do a lot of web browsing and just cant use Xp any more. It`s so unUser Friendly when compared to OSX. Expose and Spotlight can blow away XP anytime.

But then everyone has his/her own taste. Some people just dont like to walk on a smooth road and opt for a rocky mountain instead. Both the ways will get you to the same place only. But since they are so used to walk on a broken track/rocks, a smooth road seems really different and uncomforatble to them. And they go back to the ROCKS .

OK. Bad example . But I hope you got my point.

I'm originally from Retford (North Nott's not that far from Sherwood Forrest ), but living in Ireland since 98.... Been using mac's for ages

I have bootcamp installed on my imac 20" with 20gb, only use it for Rollercoaster Tycoon 3, Sims 2 & The Movies....
95% of the time i'm in osX period...

I don't know why, but my friend is buying a black macbook soon. He's not a gamer or anything, but he's never gonna use OS X Strange, I know. He's going to never use OS X, so I don't understand the point of buying a Macbook, which is more expensive than a laptop with the same specs, because of OS X. The strange thing is, he decided to get one immediately after I "announced" my intentions to get a Macbook. Maybe I can persuade him to use OS X, one day.
