I bought a really nice Lenovo Yoga 910 laptop last year but ended up replacing it with the iPad Pro 10.5 and the Smart Keyboard. I also put a SIM card in it and have unlimited data with Verizon for an extra $20 a month and have been using it a couple of months.

So far I'm really happy with the iPad and while I've lost some of the versatility that comes with having a laptop I'm just using the thing all the time. I was just wondering what other people's experiences are if they have gotten rid of their laptops?

I haven't switched fully but I'm using my iPad Pro a ton these days. My laptop is "in the shop" (it's a Dell), so I'm going to be without a true laptop for 10-14 days. This is a good test to see how far I can go with an iPad Pro only.

I've been using ipads since the very first one 7 years ago. When my macbook died 5 years ago, my ipad became my primary device. Totally works for me. And i'm not even using a pro ipad yet. I plan to get my first ipad pro in a few weeks. So yeah, totally can be done. And i don't just use my ipad for media consumption. I create on it as well. I write my travel blog with my ipad. I edit my photos & videos on it.

I was shopping for a MacBook / Pro to replace a 2008 iMac. I opted for an iPP 10.5 + ASK instead.

Still have the decade old iMac, however it's not getting much use.

10.5 Pro (and the 9.7 Pro previously) is my main machine. I use a Mac for my job because my employer requires me to use their equipment for work. If they took it away I would not replace it with a personal Mac. iPad has me covered for my content consumption and creation.

Not the 10.5, but the 12.9 is pretty much filling my need for a laptop, and I feel iOS 11 will address some of the weaknesses of using an iPad instead of a laptop rather well. I still need a beefy desktop machine for parts of my work, rendering and video gaming, but that's okay. I'm glad Apple seem to come around to seeing the iPad as viable laptop replacement, too.

It's not my main device. But I use it more than I do my laptop most times for media. But there is still that longing to use my laptop over my iPad. I Would say it's fairly balanced for me.

I use my 10.5 as my main device. Before this one I had a first gen 12.9. Been iPad/iPhone only now for over a year and I love it. For the rare occasion when needed, I can use my work PC for things, but honestly it has not come up very often. The old saying "there is an app for that" really does apply. Whenever I wonder if there is some way of doing something on the iPad, I always find there is if you have the right app.

Yes I am coming from a MacBook Air 11" and now my 10.5 is my main device. It's great for when you are highly mobile.

But I still retain the Air for some things like Quicken and other programs not available on iOS. I could dump the Air, but don't really need to.

I don't have the Pro 10.5 but iPads have been my primary devices since around iOS 8/9. The laptop gets powered maybe once a month or so for offline iTunes encrypted backups.

The 10.5" iPad is my main device at home. I am required to use my work computer at work due to the nature of the work I do.
Same--my company lets us use our Office 365 products and all of our other web based tools on our personal devices, but in general they prefer we do company work on company issued equipment. If that were not the case, I would not need my Mac at all. On the bright side: at least they let me opt for a Mac and don't restrict me to a cheap PC.

I think my 10.5 inch iPad would be my main device, but with my aging eyes I rely on my desktop monitor. Nonetheless, the Promotion screen is so good I've been using it more than ever.

I sold my 12 inch MacBook when I purchased the 10.5. Love it and would not go back. iOS has the much brighter future as it continues to evolve.

With iOS 11, and specifically the new dock and Files app, my 10.5 has quietly turned into my primary computing device. I have a new MBP, and I find I have to make a conscious effort to use it (it’s a pleasure, and it was expensive as all hell) because I’m enjoying this iPad more than any I can recall. And I’ve had them all, literally. Smart Keyboard and Pencil complete the experience. Add in great cameras and a 1-lb weight, and it’s basically the perfect computer. I carry mine everywhere.

If I need to bang out a huge report or something, I still prefer the Gen 2 keyboard on my MBP, but it’s been fun getting to know some of the productivity suites available on here. It all boils down to muscle-memory for me - there are still some situations and urgent tasks that I’m just faster at on my laptop or desktop because I’ve been doing them that way for decades; that’s not an indictment on the iPad’s viability as a computer. This thing is a beast, and I hope fellow devs continue to optimize and create apps specifically for it. We’ve got some interesting applications in mind with ARKit.

I am a grad student and went from a mid 2012 MacBook Air 11" to the 10.5 256gb wifi as my main device (with ASK and Pencil). Very pleased so far but it has only been a couple of weeks.
