Anyone else with 30" ACD having doubts about 4K?

After seeing several 4K displays and UltraHD TVs at CES, I got excited about getting 4K displays for my nMP. I currently have two 30" ACD displays and don't really have any complaints about them. I would get 30" 4K displays (which would be a bit shorter, so I would lose a bit of physical real estate).

But, the more I think about it, the more I think that maybe I'll just keep the ACDs. I worry (perhaps irrationally) that running a 4K in scaled mode would look WORSE than native resolution of the ACD-- but native 4K would make the UI too small for my eyes, even on a 30" display.

Am I crazy? Anyone in my situation having similar thoughts?

I use 4 of them with my nMP and there is NO WAY I'm getting rid of them.

I run my 2013 rMBP in a non-native scaled mode (i.e. not at 1440x900, but rather more of a 1680x1050 or 1920x1080) and the image is still practically flawless. Definitely less "jaggedness" when compared to my 2011 MBP with the 1680x1050 hi-rez display. So even though I am not using a native or an exact 2:1 pull down of the rMBP display, it still looks better than the 1:1 of my old MBP.

All of this points to a 4K display not run at full 4K or at 1080P would still be beautiful if running at say 2560x1440....

Great point. I also have (am typing on) a '13 rMBP, but always run in the "best" (1:2) scaling mode. I would likely run a 30" 4K monitor at 2560x1440, which is 1:1.5 from native I think. In the rMBP, the 1:1.5 scaling is equivalent to the 1920x1200 "More Space" scaling, which does look pretty good.....

The lack of HDCP and the general flakiness of the MDP to Dual Link DVI adapter has given me a strong case of wandering eyes since I upgraded from my old Mac Pro to my nMP. I'm comfortable waiting until the 4K world settles down a bit (still hoping to see an Apple offering) but I'm definitely tempted to upgrade now.

I'm sticking with my ACD 30" most because it has a non reflective screen. Getting rid of screen reflections was Apple's greatest technological triumph, but for some daft reason the marketing gurus think we want screens that double up as mirrors.

I run my 5,1 into a Dell 3008WFP. Display is perfectly fine, and the screen res is fine. Personally I don't need 4K screen yet and will be waiting till they come down in price and settle down to where don't need to look to see if using Multistream or Single stream to get a 4K Display working at 60Hz.
