Anyone else thinking of selling their iPad after this confirmation of the iphone 4 having 512mb of ram? I have one on pre order and really don't want to always know that my phone has better hardware than my ipad:mad: I didn't understand at the time why apple went with 256 when the iPad was released, but I also was convinced that the new iPhone would be the same. Does that mean that the iPhone will be better at surfing because it can switch between more tabs with loading. That would piss me off.

Sorry for sounding so bitter, but I keep thinking that i should sell my iPad now and maybe wait for the next one. I'll have a miniature one in my hand anyways with the iPhone 4........
 
No, I love my iPad. Its plenty fast and it's no slower now than before I knew the amount of RAM.

This is why apple doesn't broadcast technical specifications such as this, it's irrelevant. Someone in another post said it best about how the amount of RAM on a mobile device is only noticeable if the developers designing the apps for that device fail to keep it in mind. If an app is properly designed the end user shouldn't be able to tell how much RAM their device has or how much less it has than a different device. It was something like that, don't quote me.

So unless you think ipad is unusually slow, don't think about it. Remain blissfully ignorant. :)
 
I'm done with those numbers. MP, MHz, MB, etc. Just nonsense.

The current iPad works beautifully, and I have no reason to wait for the 2nd gen and miss all the fun. What would you do if 2nd gen iPad has 512MB RAM and iPhone 5 has 1024MB? Would you wait for iPad 3?
 
You could probably have whined in one of the numerous other threads talking about the RAM 'issue'.

But for the sake of answering your question: No. I bought a device. The device does what it claimed to do when I bought the device.

Sell your iPad.

If the mere knowledge that your iPad has less ram than you iPhone is really causing you mental distress, I suggest you get rid of both devices and seek medical attention.
 
What on earth does it matter? Does it perform the same as when you bought it? Does it do what you bought it to do?

You can chase specs forever, but you will never win. Anyway, specs do not matter anymore for all practical purposes. All you have to know is does it do what you want it to do and what it is advertised to be capable of. That's it.
 
It's fast enough. If news didn't break about the iPhone having 512MB of ram we wouldn't be talking about holding off or selling the ipads. People are never happy. They just want more and more.

The iPad is fast. 512MB may not even produce a noticeable difference.

Completely agree. It's an appliance & does what it says on the box. No complaints
 
Wasn't it Jobs himself who years ago said "if you can buy it, it's obsolete"? If your rationale gets followed, then you will never buy anything because everything will be upgraded to nicer specs with the next model.

I'm glad to see that you're not serious. Surely no one in right mind would compare surfing on iPhone with surfing on iPad.

This thing loads apps and web pages blazing fast. How much faster do you need? :eek:
 
Well I have calmed down a bit, and I think I'm at peace with the ram difference. And for all you people saying that it is fast enough, you are right. The news does not effect the speed of my iPad, I understand that. I was just sold on the iPad being a device in-between the phone and laptop. I would expect the specs to reflect that. The iPad runs fine now, but down the road having half the ram could a.fact performance in certain apps, or iOS revisions, or both.

I have also thought about the extra ram being needed for the 720p recording and such. Plus I forgot to realize that A4 in the iPhone is supposedly under clocked. This should give the iPad a speed advantage, and therefore it does not bother me as much. I will be keeping my iPad, as I realized over the last couple days how much I actually use it. Just going to have to upgrade when the new one arrives like :apple: wants me to.
