anyone elses power adapter get hotter than all hell?

noise? that doesn't seem right. Usually mine feels almost as hot as my mbp! but for some reason it's delightfully warm, almost cool today.
Mine is silent, but wicked hot.
I'm not sure if wicked hot is comparable to hotter than all hell, though.

hmmmaybe its because im used to having the adapter on the floor and i cant hear it from there, tonight i had it on the table next to me?

The adapter on my G4 PB is out of control hot. I would venture a guess that it's hotter than hell.
Going on 2 years and no fire yet (read: trust empiricism).
It has yet to make a noise of any sort.

It might be time to unplug that bad boy and visit your genius bar.
All that bluster expelled, there are some in this mooing thread complaining of a buzzing adapter. They may be worth a PM.
EDIT: The sowers of discord got a bad rap. I mean, a middle manager's gotta do what a middle manager's gotta do. Panderers are much worse.
And to think I could give you everything you want for just $19.95. One time transaction.

mine had a loud sizzle/whine too! i took it into 3 stores and 2 out of 3 said that its "within spec." that seems like apples new favorite phrase for people who bring in apples with problems. one even said "the power adapter is supposed to make noises!" luckily one guy heard something and allowed me to return for a full refund.
ps. the moo gets the same answer. "its within spec." "its just the fans going off." "all macbooks moo." seriously, all these are direct quotes of the 3 geniuses i spoke to.

The last one I had before I took it back had the whine but also a really loud electrical buzz with it. The crackling sound was really loud to me - it sounded like it would burst into flames at any second!
The guys at the apple store took it out back and said they couldn't hear anything - I swear those guys have cloth ears! Mind you it's not surprising since there's loud music always playing in the store plus they usually have their ipods on! lol
Mine doesn't make any noise, but it gets bloody hot. Not just the brick, but the bit that goes into the computer too (it's a MagSafe 85W) it gets incredibly hot. I couldn't care less, however.

it added smoke and flames to the display, even burned a hole in my carpet.
so yeah, this seems normal

I am joking btw, this sounds like a serious fire hazard. call apple right away, explain to them what is happneing, i bet they send you a new one immediately. no one wants to see the 'my mbp burned down my house' thread, esp. since no one knows if thermal paste is an act of god or and act of jobs

MacBook & noises...
the powerbrick idd gets hot & makes weird noises (but these only appear when the MacBook itself is turned on & running a program...)
the MacBook itself get very hot on the left side wich is where the processor is... and every x seconds you hear the fan rev up a little and slow down again... the whine I guess... and depending on the temp in the room where I use it it revs up to full speeds sometimes and then goes quiet again...
a bit like my G5, now its making more noise than when its cold...
going a bit offtopic here, but regarding the MacBook & other threads:
Yes I can see the beginning of stains on the trackpad button (where I allways click...) but in the end I don't care... as long as it does the trick, its a tool for me not something to put on a shelf and look how nice it is when I have the need for speed its still G5Power here... PPC progs in rosetta sometimes tend to freeze for a while (entourage does it all the time) so I hope Adobe & Microsoft will realise they need to bring out Universal versions or 'mini' upgrade pack to current versions soon...

Of course if its excessively hot and/or loud then i'd get it checked out.

My infrared non-contact thermometer currently measures my Power adapter at 41c. (battery full).
