I've recently moved my Documents and Desktop to iCloud. After doing so, and then waiting waiting overnight, I tried selecting all folders in my Documents and selecting something roughly phrased as: 'delete downloaded copies' The idea is to free up local space on my SSD.

Doing the latter has created dozens and dozens (potentially thousands?) of these popup errors in Finder. I must click OK for each of these messages. Obviously this isn't sustainable.

I'm not sure the best approach at this point.

Error -43 means simply 'file cannot be found', and has been around since forever.

When you say: "I've recently moved my Documents and Desktop to iCloud.", you mean you moved the files manually, or did you select to use icloud for storage of the two in System settings? The latter being the proper way, as I'm sure you're aware.

My apple computer told me to use iCloud. So I did. It is likely done in 'the proper way' - but, I don't know. I just followed the recommendation built into my machine (i.e. something in the system settings - like a storage manager or something like that).

As for the funny messages. The Error -43 syndrome has vanished. At the time though, I got really spooked by the Error -43 messages - not so much for the error itself - but how my macOS was acting like a crapola Microsoft Windows system (the dozens and dozens of popup error messages all in a row - all requiring individual mouse clicks to make each message go away - one click at a time).

I'm guessing this and other weird (and similar) messages I get when tagging photos is related to the fact that I'm using a 2015 MacBook Pro running macOS Monterey.

I don't think so. Nothing wrong with a 2015 MBP or Monterey. It should work fine. Don't believe the thesis that everything should be up to date or it won't work. Often, it's quite the opposite - most-up-to-date is also most untested, that's why I call it the bleeding edge. I stay a step or two behind.

I recommend this guy for anything mac related. Gary is very knowledgeble, straight to the point type of guy. Here's his take on the desktop and documents option:

I've got a 2015 MacBook Pro - I'm quite far from the bleeding edge! I'm about one decade behind. But, yeah, I've always been a late adopter - mostly because I don't like wasting all my time fiddling with the new (often broken) things as they come out. I say let the exuberant be the beta testers.
