How often do you do it?

Do you pack it up in a special bag or just carry it and load it up in the trunk?

I do couple of times a year. I use the original box which has worked very well, no need for special bags or anything.

only did it a few times, but will start again with my new 27'', i intend to buy a screen cover:

they do padded ones for older models, but not the new ones yet

I'm sure I'm doing it wrong, but when I have to transport my iMac, I lay a very soft cloth down on my backseat and lay it down as I would if I was upgrading the RAM.

Just don't be this guy... ;)

That is :cool: haha, I've been thinking about doing that myself. :rolleyes:

Thanks for the iLugger recomm.

Can't believe some people actually lug the 21.5" to coffee houses/libraries. The bulk of my towing will be taking my Imac to the day job, then back home during the evening 2 days a week. I need something that's fast to pack yet keeps everything safe.

I carried my G5 all around in its original box, and it worked perfectly. The design of these new boxes is simply retarded though: what was Apple thinking by taking out the latch that the G5 box had? Now you can't carry the box around by the handle without the top coming open on you.

I undersand your problem. I'm looking for something to transport my 27"*. As hilarious as it would be in Starbucks, I basically need something that will keep it safe while I'm transporting it from one house to another (not often, probably once a month at most). At the moment, the box is ok except a bit of a fail on the handle front.

*when it arrives. Just waiting for the third now...

What I used to do back when I would attend lan parties at friends houses was get a blanket that's sufficiently thick and soft and lay that around my computer monitor (basically all the iMac is) so it's covering both sides. Then I would lay it face down on a seat or on the floor. You can also stand it up so the glass faces the back of the chair and put the seat belt around it, only if it's one of those belts that goes over the shoulder.

I've done all these many times but just not with an iMac, but I don't see why it would be any different.

I've got a specially made case with straps akin to a backpack. Comes in handy when I want to stroll over to Starbucks for a WiFi session. One of these days though, I'll have to purchase a laptop as my back is starting to pain.

EDIT: I see someone already made the SBs joke.

@vividboarder

My biggest problem with laying it flat in the car is that the screen is so big, it would overhang the edge of the seat! I wouldn't want to brake and find my imac going for an adventure all on its own...

I've even considered getting a cheap flightcase/suitcase and customising it myself...
