Hi all,

I'm new to the forum and currently own a Mac Mini PPC G4 1.42 Ghz and the Superdrive is listed as a Pioneer DVR-K04L.

I have owned the computer for several years, but lately the drive has been giving me problems to the point where it will not read CDs or DVDs. It simply takes the disc, spins it for a while and makes some noises (like it's trying to read it loudly, and the sound is always in groups of 2, if that helps in any way) and then spits the disc back out. This happens with any disc, whether blank, burned, or a commercial disc. I even tried using a lens cleaner, but it wouldn't even read the disc so it could get cleaned!

So my first question is: Do you think there's a way I can fix it?

And if not, do you think I should try to replace it, or just go out and get an external drive?

Thanks!

Take the mini's case off and lightly clean the lens with some can air or a q-tip lightly soaked in alcohol. You can even run it with the case off for a bit to see exactly what its doing.
