Early models of iPhone 5 have a bad solder on the sleep/wake button, causing it to be inoperable over time.

Needless to say I fall under this category. I've had my iPhone 5 since launch and my sleep button does not work AT ALL anymore.

Apple issued a recall for the iphone 5, you can check your serial here:

https://www.apple.com/support/iphone5-sleepwakebutton/

On that page they indicate they will upgrade your software to iOS 7. Is this out of date and really they mean iOS8 or can I go in with a JB'd phone and not lose my JB?

Just curious if anyone recently went in for repairs with ios7 jailbroken.

Generally they refuse service on a JB device, you might get lucky, but don't count on it.

Might depend on the intelligence of your genius.

Mine wasn't ever too heavily jailbroken, so I'd hide the JB apps using a tweak, disable themes or tweaks, ect.

Worked every time.

Just wondering if they will force ios8 whether it's jb'd or not.

My model 5 is in the same condition as yours, plus has the battery issue too. Apple told me they'd be updating it to the latest iOS version and if I were on 7, it would be 8 afterward.

I dropped mines off and they took 3 weeks to contact me. They ended up replacing my launch day unit. This was last month. Came with ios 7.1.2

Hide any Jailbreak apps within folders, and make the OS look stock. (Disable any add-ons that would be obvious.)

Add a security code (something simple, 1-2-3-4, that you can tell them if they INSIST on having it.)

Bring it in with a dead battery. (Hey, your sleep/wake switch is dead, so you couldn't turn it off to save battery, right?)

Ask if it's going to be repaired in-house, or sent out for repair.

If they say it's going to be sent out, assume they'll end up swapping it with a refurbished, and that you won't get your own device back.

Ah, I see.

They likely would want you to restore to the newest firmware. This isn't always an issue, depending on when the latest jailbreak or iOS software was released (e.g. if you took it in before 8.0.0 had dropped, and 7.1.2 was "up to date")

Thanks for the replies, I'm going to hide all my jb stuff, bring it in with low battery, and if they update it to 8.0 I might just end up getting the iphone 6, lol. My iphone 5 battery lasts only about 12 hours now and I'm somewhat due for a new device anyway. If I'm going to rock ios8 I figure it might as well be on a new device...

My iP5 also is eligible for the sleep/wake button and battery recall. Been hesitant to bring it in since I don't wanna lose my JB.

Why would anyone rather have a JB iphone 5 than battery and sleep/wake button issue.

Wouldn't you rather get it swapped while the recall is still in play, because there will probably always be another JB on the horizon.

The thing is I don't have the sleep/wake button or battery issues on mine but phone is eligible when I enter the serial number.

I definitely will take it in before the recall expires.

crazy I went to Apple earlier this year with the sleep button issue they wanted to charge me $250. Now they're fixing it 2 years later
