Has anyone ever had to replace a power supply on their Mac Pro? Either in or out of warranty?

Just curious, from what I have heard and read, the failure rate is very low.

That's interesting. Is it possible to change the default one for a brand new with higher power rates and connectors? Will be easy to install a 7970 graphics card.

I believe you can swap out for a direct replacement, but not one more powerful. I believe the standard PS is 900w anyway, no need for any more power.

I don't believe so, no. You can only replace the PS with same PS.

I had to have mine replaced after about 6-7 months from purchasing the 2010 Mac Pro. The power supply was TOTALLY dead (e.g., pressing power button on front did absolutely nothing).

And FYI - It's a major pain having to haul a Mac Pro to the mall for repair. Hoping I never have to take it in for service again.
