So I was browsing the equivalent of Ebay in my country and I saw this listing for new Airpods Max with the lightning connector in the space grey color in packaging that I've never seen before. Seller says that it's Apple's "as-in+ packaging", brand new and not refurbished.

Seller has 1000+ positive reviews accumulated over many years and will let you try it out in case you're able to pick them up so I guess it's the real deal?

Does anyone know more about these units? Where do they come from?

Just to clarify: I'm not buying (actually waiting for the day the 2.0 version will release lol). I was just curious about the packaging and thought maybe I could find answers here since I can't seem to find any info about the packaging on the internet.

Appreciate the reactions tho thanks :)

Looks legit. This is similar to refurb as-is iPhones sold by Apple to distributors with a warranty date of 1978. Similar packaging here. These refurbs are only sold in Asia and Middle East.

Most people in the U.S. are not familiar with this because it’s not sold there. Apple offers differing levels of refurb.

Can explain more but you can Google 1978 iPhone for info.

Use common sense. If they have the ability to “bootleg” the device, they’d clone the packaging as well.

Obviously buyer beware but a lot of Apple devices sold into the corporate or education market are supplied in plain packaging to cut down on cost etc. Some of these find their way into the consumer market on eBay etc. This happens with many manufacturers not just Apple.

In my experience in the Middle East for example fake products usually come in fake boxes with fake invoices and the full works.

I've had this similar kind of packaging when I receieved my replacement Airpods Max from an Applecare repair.

But I still would rather spend a bit extra from big retailers for peace of mind.
