you will miss the higher res and battery life from the 13" badly.

i bought the 11" only to find out the vertical resolution is so cramped and i had to move my dock to the left side of the screen.

after i played with 13" on the apple store i regretted it, even the 11" foot print is so awesome, close to iPad portability and so light, i would prefer the higher res because it looks awesome and looks better than the standard 15" mbp screen.

well today for 11", after i installed Lion GM and always set safari and itunes as a fullscreen apps, it helps alot with the limited vertical space on the 11" air and i decided to keep my 11" :D

The footprint and mobility of the 11" is just too enticing to pass. Since I'm guessing the 11” SB will beat the procssing power of the current ultimate 13", I'm all in for an 11" Ultimate. I don't need the 13" coz the plan is to get an Ivy Brige 15" MBP Ultimate next year for my heavy lifting/gaming.

Wow, you have almost the same plan! Get an 11" MBA this year and then buy a Macbook Pro next year. Except I'm planning on getting a 17" instead.

:)

Though there will be 2 factors for this to change. I won't get an 11" if the Ultimate won't have the option for 256gb. And if the slightest chance 13" will have a different and better GPU than the 11" (which is unlikely). Can't wait for the specs.

Having owned multiple versions of the last gen 11 and 13" Airs, as well as of the 13 and 15" MBPs, I am very, very excited for this coming 11" model. I loved the portability of my 11" Ultimate and am hoping the new one will get the backlit keyboard back and a 256gb option from the factory. I had to buy a 13" Air just to swap the 256 into my 11" and it was a pain. I'm really hoping the Airs don't have fan issues or overheating issues like many of the people with the 13" Pros have been experiencing. I'll buy AppleCare for sure if they do.

I bought the 11 last year and immediately returned it. Too cramped. Not worth the price at all. Returned it and picked up the 13 and have been loving it for about 9 months now. I would never recommend the 11 to anyone unless it dropped significantly in price. The only thing I hate about my 13 is how incredibly hot it gets when watching videos and the lack of illuminated keys.

How many hours of battery life did you get on average with each machine? I would love to get a new air but, being a college student, I need my machine to last all day without needing to be charged.

I don't think its going to cut it for you. You might be able to squeeze by, but do you want to bet on that happening each day?

If you've got both of the '10's, it shouldn't be that much of a problem.

And if the 13" mbp's are having heating and fan issues with the i5's and i7's, wouldn't they be worse in the air's smaller chassis? I've just got this hunch apple's going to go with i3's for the airs.

My God, I'm getting tired of all these apostrophes.

13" mba has plenty of battery juice to get you through the day. Realitiscally, not too many times a student have their laptop running 6+ hrs straight during a school day.

I get 5.5hrs usage, running full blast, full brightness.

Some numbers and/or usage patterns would answer my question. Suggesting that the machine wouldn't cut it does nothing for me or anyone else that might have the same question.

Well we have no idea what you plan on doing on your computer. Is it just note taking. Streaming lesson videos. Using Flash sites. That kind of thing. You also need to define full day. Is it 4 hours use spread over 8. Is it 8 hours with 1 hour of commute? We can only guess at your usage pattern.

I get about 6-7 hours browsing, light to moderate video watching, and music constantly playing. I have brightness set to its lowest though.

I'm the opposite, was intent on the 11 but having played with it, looks like a 13 might be the only real option. The screen is so small as to be quite jarring for doing work on, and the keyboard felt pretty odd, that is to say, quite soft and unpleasant on the 11 inch model I tried.

Oh, and for those contemplating buying a '10 model....BB has an additional 10% off their open box items. Considering they usually sell these for 10% off the original 'new' price, it's not a bad little discount.

If only someone would return an air with more than 2 gigs of ram, though...

Ultimate 13" with Coolbook, solid 7 hours of countinous surfing without flash or light youtube with 40%~50% brightness.

If you use it offline, taking notes and stuffs, expect to see battery life as long as 8~9 hours. I wouldn't be worry about the battery, if anything, I'll be running out of juice with attending lectures continuously for 7 hours. I believe MBP last just as long or a little longer.

If you want to watch some movies during break times, you'll still see 5+ hours of usage depends on the movie resolution etc.

I'm sure you don't need to use the laptop 100% during full 1 hours lecturer, taking some notes, then idle for 10 mins, some notes, idle 15mins. Great thing about the MBA is that it virtually freeze the battery life whenever you close the lid and go into sleep mode. I left my MBA over night standby on battery, next morning I wake it up and it's instant on as if I just close the lid 5 mins before, and I get only 1% battery lost.

Not for the 11", it might be perfect for some people but it's way too cramped for me. I'm definitely going for the new 13" MBA though.

As my only computer with a monitor 11" is just too much on the small side.

Awesome, that's great to hear. As I *think* I stated before, It's either a MBA or a MBP, depending on how much they are when they're refreshed and what they're offering.

My budget is going to probably be 1200 with tax... and looking at the Air prices right now, it might actually be out of my budget to get a 13 inch. (11 inches don't have that great battery life).

It's going to kill me if the prices are too high; however if they are, I can always go for an upgraded 11 or just get a MBP. But yea, I'm going to be typing, idle, transport, web browsing, maybe some video here and there, and continue throughout the day.

Because I have all Science and 1 calc class, I don't think I'll actually need the MB during lectures; doing things before and after is my main concern. I'm living off campus next semester (thank God lol) so I need it to last the entire time I'm at school. (I hated lugging my old charger with me)

But yea, thanks for posting man. The new Airs won't be able to use Coolbook but when I take the trip to the Apple store this weekend, I'll keep that in mind.
