Hello everybody,
Anyone got the sim-free iPhone XS / XS Max model? If so, could you be gently to inform the model number?

It doesn’t have to be, I got an AT&T XS Max and use it on T-Mobile. Works fine and dandy and yes I get LTE.

They did not have any T-Mobile in config I wanted. Wonder how many folks left today empty handed, not me because I know my ....

Interesting. I thought the At&t, t-mobile and Verizon models would be the A1921 (XS MAX) and the sim-free one the A2101 model.
Since my country will use the A2101 model, I cant buy the USA models, even the sim-free one.
So, no way I can get the A2101 in USA, right?

My understanding is they’re the same phone (in the US). The phone is the same whether you buy AT&T, Verizon, T-Mobile, Sprint or sim free.

I noticed there are 1920 and 1921 for US Maxes. Idk why though since both models support CDMA tech.

I’m also curious if there is a difference, I got the SIM Unlocked one, but don’t know if there are any real differences?

I think the A1920 is the Xs model.

You're right. I looked it up again and I saw XS and XS Max under Tech Specs. Good to see it's only one model this time by. I could get my phone unlocked and then use it elsewhere if I need to which is great. I am glad there isn't that Intel/Qualcomm debate this year. But I can see people complaining about LG vs Samsung displays this year.

The china Hong Kong iPhone models support two physical nano SIM cards (they slide and gold plate sim face away)

Out of curiosity, does it require the iOS update to support dual SIMs? I assume so? I hope the update goes out quick because there is one line on my account I would like to pair with another in one device (not that it matters to me what Hong Kong has as much, more like if Apple can make a point of emphasis).

I think Apple hasn’t released official support for it yet.

On a side note. Besides the dual sim. The esim May become a big failure (in my opinion) because apparently carriers have to release the esim software in the App Store. And say carriers from Vodafone to orange in Europe to att and Verizon in USA. They aren’t gonna to want to give Apple a percentage of their carrier revenue with the esim roaming charges.

Please excuse my ignorance, how is it that you have come to understand that E-SIM = carriers giving Apple a portion of their revenue?

The eSIM will be controlled by Apple and it can dictate which carriers to partner with, support and show relative mobile plans," Neil Shah, research director at Counterpoint Research, told CNBC by email on Thursday.

"So Apple can be the gatekeeper now since it will have control over eSIM. Thus it will demand a revenue cut for the activations happening through eSIM."

Basically Apple will have the carriers release their own app for people to sign up for mobile plans via App Store. Apple will demand a cut of the revenue. I suspect international roaming will be the first target for Apple. Like when I went to Europe this summer. I went to the Vodafone store in Spain to get SIM card. It was a pain to wait for service. Than they couldn’t activate it for some reason. Than I had to go Orange store down the street and they got me activated with prepaid sim. But that took an hour of my time.

Now with esim. I can probably once apple makes esim activate. I can download orange prepaid app. And sign up for service via app. I pay like 30-35€ for 6-10gb. Apple takes 10-30% of the cut since it’s in App Store. I avoid trip to store. Orange still makes easy money since it’s all done via app and they don’t have to pay store employees to activate sim for me.

There is certainly some doubt over E-sim even Apple note that although your physical sim can be unlocked by your carrier there is no guarantee that the e-sim will also be unlocked

If I could get the Chinese dual physical sim with out paying a $3-500 premium currently I would opt for this personally for international use https://support.apple.com/en-my/HT209086 Although I doubt it will be as good as Samsung that allows dual Apps for differing sims use eg 2 WhatsApp's

Apple
"eSIM will be available later this year through a software update. Use of eSIM requires a wireless service plan (which may include restrictions on switching service providers and roaming, even after contract expiration). Not all carriers support eSIM. Use of eSIM in iPhone may be disabled when purchased from some carriers. See your carrier for details. To learn more, visit https://support.apple.com/kb/HT209044."

My plan: I bought the SIM-free model and swapped in my current SIM. Once TMobile gets their eSIM ability going, I'll activate the eSIM with TMobile and use the physical slot for travel SIMs.
