I was approved for 5500 dollar credit line on my Apple Card 2 weeks ago. I got an early invite. Decided I would break it in on a purchase of a new MacBook Pro (50 bucks daily cash and Id pay it off). Used my Apple Pay via my phone which had a 0 balance. Declined. Tried it again, same result.

So called up their customer support from the store, after waiting nearly 30 minutes for someone to give me an answer they said my card didn't match the phone it was registered to. And I wouldn't be able to use it until they resolved something on their end. They promised to call me back the following day to get it taken care of.

Being that this MacBook was for my daughter for school and she already picked out the beats she wanted, I just used my AMX and was done with it.

The next day, no call from their support as promised. All in all, what a bad experience. The support given was horrible. I was transferred 3 times, put on hold for 30 mins and at the end they couldn't resolve my issue.

Has anyone else had their card declined?

This is unfortunately a similar experience but I was using the card number portion. Worked fine for a small purchase, tried to make a 500 dollar purchase online and it was declined. Now its been a giant mess of agents and "Don't call us we will call you." and then crickets. So you aren't alone.

Sounds like GS is using a card use algorithm that detects unusual spend habits ??
I don't know a card company that doesn't. Though I have never once, before and after my name change, had an issue with a charge that isn't resolved by calling, giving them the information they ask you to verify, and them clearing the charge. Most even wait on the line while you try it again to make sure it goes through ok. Putting you entire account into review over one is absurd. Particularly if the user had the card tied to any bills.

Did you only try doing the transaction on your phone, or also on your computer as well before contacting customer support?

I couldn't use Apple Pay. It only used the supplied credit card number. Again, when a good charge is declined its usually never an issue to call customer support and say "Hey this is all good" give them some info, and everything is ready. No matter how it is done, it shouldn't make your account go "Into review".

The Apple Card "Declined" seem to be what @4sallypat is indicating, which I love. When i first got my Amex, it came with a check spending power. lets you test out the waters. Maybe ask GS what type of spending power you have?
Same here, when I used my Amex Platinum that I normally don't use, all of a sudden a $700 charge was declined.
When I called customer service, they said their "automated algorithm" detected unusual activity.
After she heard what I was doing, they approved the transaction.
Sort of embarrassing in front of the merchant selling me a low end DSLR camera.
Wouldn't have bothered me but a platinum Amex should never decline IMO

Yeah I'm totally used to that in my case. I don't mind it being aggressive. Which originally was why I called in to GS when it declined. I just figured "Oh well I call in and they will approve it and we retry". Instead they locked my account and its now going on a month since I last hear from anyone.

Now even Apple isn't calling me back so, yeah...
