Anyone has a reliable nMP? If yes, configuration?

My nMP is having the following 2 problems since May:

1. When it wakes up from the sleep mode, one monitor sometimes does not wake up. I have to reboot the nMP to get both monitors to work.

2. When I boot the nMP, it sometimes freezes while booting up. I have to do a hard reset and then a SMC reset to get it boot again.

My current nMP is a replacement already. I returned the first one, which had the same problems, within 14 days. These monitors worked with my Dell PC reliably. On Apple Forum, quite a few people have the same problems as well. I have been working with AppleCare since mid June. AppleCare and Apple Engineering team have asked me to use their special tool to collect logs on my Mac Pro twice already. But they have no clue on when they can get the problems fixed.

So I am wondering if any of you have a reliable nMP? If yes, how do you connect your nMP to the monitors?
 
i have a 6 core d700 mac pro with 2x27 cinema displays and 1 thunderbolt displays. No problems here. But sometimes the Tb display just turns off for no reason and after i unplug the tb cable and put it back in it comes back.
 
8core/d700/64gb/1tb, used with an lg 34um95 and old apple cinema display. Not a single problem here.
 
6-core base model with Thunderbolt Display, external USB DVD burner, and Firewire external HD (hooked through display). No problems to speak of. If you are having the same problems with 2 different Mac Pro units, you might want to consider that there's an issue with one of your peripherals. Either that or some kind of incompatibility. Do you mind listing the models of your monitors and any other peripherals on here? Not saying that those on this forum know more than the experts at Applecare, but it's possible somebody might have some insight when they see the details of your setup.

i had similar problems with my 6-core D500, or so I thought. The problem turned out to be my 24" LED Cinema Display on the long road to eventual death. After it finally died and I replaced it with a new 27" Thunderbolt Display my system has been running great. Have you verified that your peripherals are rock solid on a different system?

I have a Dell U2412M and an older Samsung SyncMaster 930B monitors. The Samsung is the one that has problems. However, if I use the Samsung monitor as the sole monitor, there is no issue at all. So apparently, my Mac Pro cannot handle two monitors.

My other peripherals are 2 OWC Mercury Elite Pro mini HDs and a Logitech C930e webcam. When I disconnect these devices, my Mac Pro still has the problems.

My monitors work with a Dell PC well. No issues at all.

The other peripherals are new. I tried to isolate the problems and disconnected these peripherals (2 external HDs and 1 webcam). But my Mac Pro still has the same problems.

I had the same problem in the beginning. The monitors you attached to your MacPro are the problem ( the lack of support might be a better description though... ).


I have an LG IPS277 and a 24" philips display attached to my MacPro.
Both have HDMI and are connected with an HDMI <=> Mini Displayport adapter.

Both displays worked like a charm when connected to a late 2013 imac.
In the beginning I had the sleep / wake issues you described. In addition to this the monitors woke up my nMP after a few minutes/hours.


For me an active HDMI to display port adapter fixed the problem. It has to be an active one. Not just a passive adapter.

The D300 seem to have problems to detect the correct clock of the monitor. Couldn't find any other explanation.

Edit:

I only put an active HDMI<>displayport adapter between the LG monitor. The philips monitor is connected with a passive adapter.

Since I added the active adapter the nMP works very reliable and I never had any sleep/wake issues again.
 
Mine works perfectly. 4C/16GB/256GB. Although I use Thunderbolt displays. I didn't get the clicking issue either. I almost never turn it off but when I have, booting was a fast and painless process. So fast, I usually don't see the actual boot process, it just flies.
 
I couldn't get full res on my Dell U3011 until I used Apple's DVI-D to minidisplay port cable, with USB for power. No problems since.
 
6c, 64GB RAM, 512GB SSD, D500.

Works great like a champ 24/7. I had defective RAM initially (it would kernel panic with certain conditions), but after the RAM was replaced, I never worry about it and it never gets loud even when I'm doing heavy workloads. I absolutely love this computer.

Can you state the brand(s) of your monitor(s)? What types of connection are used between monitor(s) and nMP?
 
hex/d700/64 GB (aftermarket)/256

No problems. Three displays, two TB and one Cinema. Bunch of other peripherals including two 4 drive Promise P2's.

I received the miniDP-to-DVI active adapter. It made the Samsung monitor reliable so far after 3 days. Note that this Samsung monitor was the one that had issues.

However, the Dell monitor is now having the wake up from sleep problem. The connection used is miniDP-to-DP. Is there such thing as active miniDP-to-DP adapter?

Anyway, I ordered another miniDP-to-DVI adapter and will use DVI cable for the monitor.

Oh yeah sorry. I have 27" Apple Cinema Displays. They're attached to a Thunderbolt dock which is connected to the nMP with just one TB cable.
