Anyone have a 5 & 7 series- i have a question

I got a new 7 today to replace a faulty 7 whose speaker died. The build quality of THIS 7 is SOLID - but I've noticed 2 things that are different than my in-laws 5-series.

YOU CAN SEE THE PROXIMITY SENSOR on this 7, but not on his 5 series. There are two slits directly above the earpiece and bordering the chrome bezel. NO BIGGY - I don't mind seeing these.

The bigger issue is that my contrast is very high. The screen has darker dark regions and more vibrant highlights. THe annoying this with this is that the tilted viewing angle stinks. It's hard to read unless you are facing it dead-on. Can anyone compare this to a 5-series side by side and post their findings. I remember the 5 was readable from all angles very well. This is like PRIVACY GLASS on those ATM machines so people can't read your PIN.

It sounds more like a feature than a defect. Isn't high contrast, blacker blacks, and vibrant whites what we all look for in a display?

Fine, but my concern is about the angle. If I tilt it slightly i cannot read it - much like a powerbook or laptop from an extreme angle you can't see the display. Mine becomes hard to make out from a gentle 25deg tilt.

My 7 series iPhone is perfect. I can only see the proximity sensor in bright sunlight.

You guys need to stop knit picking so much...you're gonna drive yourself crazy...

Seriously, were you planning a viewing party on your phone? The only situation I can think of where that might be annoying is if it's used as a mounted GPS device in the car.

It has been documented before that the 7 series screen's contrast is cranked up as compared to the 5 series. I've had both and there is a pretty noticeable difference, but its pretty easy to get used to.

Can anyone else confirm the that you can't see the sensors ar the top of the phone on the 5 series? You have to be under bright light or sunlight to see it on the 7 series.

I just had my phone replaced with a 7-series and my experience tracks the original poster's. I never checked the LCD panel info page on my old phone but I think it was a 5-series because I never saw the light and proximity sensors on the old phone but I noticed them immediately on my new phone (I didn't even know what they were when I first saw them).

I do prefer the look of my old phone. I noticed immediately - before I had read any posts about different panels - that colors are more muted, less vibrant on my new phone. On the other hand, contrast is higher on the new phone, making it easier to see details in dark scenes. For example, I watched the season premiere of the TV show "Supernatural" on my old phone a couple weeks ago. The opening scene is at night and has a black cloud that moves through the air. When I watched it on my old phone, it was difficult to see the cloud from the night sky, they pretty much melded together. I watched the episode again on the new phone and now, the black cloud is easily seen against the night sky.
