iPod Anyone have the Special Edition iPod Shuffle?

Any Special Edition Stainless Steel iPod Shuffle owners out there?

I was thinking of picking one up. And I know about the Sept. 1 media event. I won't actually open it until after the event in case they update, lower price, or anything else to it. But there are also rumors it might go End of Life and get discontinued with a much smaller Nano coming out. I want to be able to get one now in case they become unavailable.

I wanted to know what people who owned the Special Edition thought of the finish. How does it hold up. Does it still look good or scratch easily.

Any feedback would be great.

I'm looking for an answer to this as well. I've always thought it would make a great looking (and very functional) tie clip, and in turn, a great conversation piece.

You mean the stainless steel one? I believe it holds up well, because it isn't chrome, it's stronger than the stupid chrome on the classic and iTouch, not as susceptible to scratches from dust ^^

The finish scratches subtly over time, but the main problem is that the device (along with all other 3rd gen shuffles) is rendered useless because the headphones cannot take perspiration. They simply don't work if you want to use them while working out -- the reason I bought one in the first place.

I assume that's why the whole line was discontinued today.

My 3rd generation stainless steel model shows fingerprints but I think it would look as good as new if I polished it for a minute or two. I love it! I've owned many iPods, and it is definitely my very very favorite!

I was actually thinking about buying a second one, but now that they are discontinued, I can't find one anywhere on the web! I see two on eBay, but I would appreciate any pointers or suggestions.

We only have one Apple Store in Indiana (USA), and they are out of the stainless steel shuffles, but I called another Apple Store in a nearby State, where I have some family, and they have them in stock still! Hooray! The stainless steel model was $99, but they are on clearance for $69, so I'm going to ask my family to pick me up one of them. I love mine, and now I want a backup! So this is good news, indeed!

Congrats on finding it. I bought one the Friday before the event and then returned it this past weekend. At $99 for that Shuffle, I just decided to get a new Nano sometime soon.

Ah, but the "stainless steel" models are now $69 since they are on "clearance" (the original price was $99).

My family picked me up one from the Kenwood Apple Store near Cincinnati, Ohio, USA, this morning. (Our store in Indiana doesn't have any more of them.) So I am very happy.

That is a great price. But one reason I wanted it was that I liked the clip. Now the new Shuffle and Nano have that. And are both small. Bummer that the new Nano doesn't come in a 16GB Stainless at $199. I have an iP4 and use BT headphones with it. But at work, in the car, and sometimes doing stuff at home when I just want earbuds, the iPhone isn't the best choice. With the 3rd gen. Shuffle, I would have needed an adapter for controls to hook it up to my work speakers or car stereo. With the new Nano, I get controls. It's just too small and sexy to go for the older Shuffle, even at $69. If money was no issue at all, I'd get one of each.

I completely see what you mean, roland.g. I hope that the Nano does the trick for you. I know exactly what you mean--different players for different situations. For instance, when I'm doing major construction work on my home (laying floors, building new walls, etc.), I don't want a Shuffle dangling on me. I just turn on the physical radio from an old 1980's or 1990's era boom box, and such a boom box works better. In the car, the shuffle just doesn't seem to be the right tool either.
