I have 4 apple tv's (ATV2) throughout my house, only one is connected to my receiver with an HDMI cable, the others go directly to the TV. The one connected to the receiver has a lot of trouble playing content. Primarily netflix and my own content. Very often, practically all the time, I get the message that there was an error playing the content. Even movies from my iTunes collection on my network. I can go into any other room and the content plays fine. Does not affect ATV movie rentals, if I rent from ATV it works fine. Anyone else experience this or have any suggestions to fix?

Thanks,
Peter

I use the Hdmi cable to go from the ATV directly into the TV. I use a Digital Optical cable to go from my ATV to my receiver. No problems what so ever.

No problems here with HDMI straight into 5.1 receiver. Doing that actually fixed the occasional HDCP hiccup I was getting when feeding the TV direct and playing rented movies. It's been flawless ever since.

Thanks for the replies. Will have to experiment and see if the problem goes away by connecting directly to the tv. If it does then there is definitely something wrong with my setup to the receiver. For anyone that has a successful setup through their receiver can you tell me the make/model you have? Will be useful in case I ever need to replace.

Thanks,
peter

Onkyo TX-NR609. Does your receiver have an on screen display that shows the audio and video format it's receiving?

wired or wireless?

is the one by the stereo buried in amongst a bunch of electronics that blocks the wireless signal? as opposed to sitting out in the open by itself next to a tv?

My atv goes straight to my home theatre system 7.1 and never had seen this error message before... Did you try switching hdmi wires?

Didn't try that. I will give a new cable a try. It is actually working at the moment so will have to wait for the next time it acts up (which shouldn't take long)

Check and see if you receiver and/or TV have firmware updates. I never would have thought but receivers do have updates. Mine got its update from an audio file from the manufacturer's website that (per instructions) I burned as an audio CD and played through my Blu-Ray player. My TV got its update from a firmware file placed on a USB drive. The most common thing corrected with these updates is HDMI compatibility.

Thanks for the reply. I have tried that, no firmware updates to apply. Also tried the previous request (switching hdmi cables) and nothing. Sometimes it works fine, but other times I still get the error accessing content, but only for netflix streaming and playing my own movies via iTunes. Never have an issue when renting a movie from Apple. Very strange.
