Anyone having problems with Safari lately?

All of a sudden, Safari has started behaving weirdly. It will periodically brick my MBP and require a force close and restart. It loads pages painfully slow, a picture and element at a time, and even entering the type in this box sometimes lags.

I delete history and clean the cache each time I close Safari, so I know it isn't "clogged". Is anyone else having this problem, or is it just me?

BTW, I'm on ML from the day it was released and have only had this Safari problem the last couple days.

I did install Parallels and Win8 (preview). I'm not using it, but does anyone think this might cause a conflict that affects Safari?

I DL Parallels and Win8 several weeks ago and it's only the last few days Safari has been behaving odd.

UPDATE: I went ot 9-5Mac site and there were HUGE gaps in the page. It occurred to me to turn Java back on and all was normal. I wonder...... Java had an update a couple days ago and, after the update, I turned Java off in Safari Develop menu. Might be too much for a coincidence - maybe more cause and effect? Anyone else notice this?

Did you turn off Java or Javascript? Despite the unfortunate similarities in the names, they are totally unrelated. Java is a security nightmare and should be turned off unless you are certain that you need it. JavaSCRIPT is essential to virtually all websites and should definitely be left on.

Yep. It's started occasionally totally freezing my MBA and only a machine shutdown and restart will unfreeze it.

Have not noticed any such problem on 10.8.2 12C43 across 5 different Mac/MacBooks.

Maybe this will be released soon and fixes your problem.

Did you turn off Java or Javascript? Despite the unfortunate similarities in the names, they are totally unrelated. Java is a security nightmare and should be turned off unless you are certain that you need it. JavaSCRIPT is essential to virtually all websites and should definitely be left on.

YOU ARE RIGHT!! I thought I was turning off Java, but in fact it was Javascript... and I knew the difference. Thanks for the heads up on this. "Duh!" on me.

As I've mentioned in several other threads, I've been having this problem on my rMBP running 10.8.1 for at least the past 2 weeks. I love my rMBP and otherwise like 10.8.1, but I'm hoping 10.8.2 and/or a Safari update fixes this ASAP. Nothing worse than running the world's best notebook and having your web browser act like Internet Explorer circa 2002.

A poster above mentioned the add-on "AdBlock". I have it active and it's very effective. However, I did as the poster mentioned and turned it off. All the difference in the world! Safari returned to it's quickness and stable performance.

However, I rapidly got tired of all the ads - I hadn't realized how MANY were on different sites!! No wonder it takes a bit longer to load when all these are purged.

I opted to turn AdBlock back on and deal with the jerky loading process. It turned out things are going smoother since I turned it back on, so maybe a turn off/turn on would be helpful.

PS - Please note that previously I accidentally turned off Javascript - that caused the crashes. Once I turned it back on, all was well. I thought (mistakenly) I was turning off "Java" - a totally unrelated app. Javascript is essential to Safari's ops.
