Recently WhatsApp on my MBP14 with Monterey 12.1 has been losing its connection to my iPhone, or failing to connect when starting up. This used to work (on Monterey) and does work for a short while if I log out and relink the desktop to my phone app.

Is anyone else having this problem?

I think that is still in Beta, and only for certain customers? I don’t have the option to select it on the phone.

Most of the time the Mac desktop app doesn’t even generate a QR code to link the phone even after logging out and unlinking.

OK, I uninstalled the WhatsApp version from the App Store and downloaded and installed again from www.whatsapp.com/download.

This got me back to registering the QR code, and it does day that I can link 4 devices + phone and use without keeping the phone online.

Let’s see if this fixes it.

I am a bit suspicious of 3rd party downloads from the App Store if the vendor has their own downloads, which are likely to be more up to date.

It's strange because I'm using the App Store one and it works just fine for me. Did you get the recent update?

Yes, I did, and I also uninstalled it, and reinstalled today from the App Store; no dice!

So in my case, downloading the .dmg directly from WhatsApp.com seemed to do the trick.

Let's see if it "sticks"!

I found this issue I think!

I have a site blocker that blocks Facebook.com during working hours..and as WhatsApp is owned by Facebook it must called URIs internally with "Facebook.com"...hence the reason for it asking to connect to the internet when the computer is already connected...it's just blocked.

ny somewhere
this just started for me today (i'd rebooted, logged out, back in; same thing). i get "whatsapp needed to restart because of a problem"; if i click 'ok' the cycle repeats).

anyway, dragged the app to the trash, reinstalled, reconnected with my iphone... and back in business.

fwiw, no site blockers (or facebook, for that matter) here.
