My company recently developed a CardBus card. So far we've only ever supported our hardware on Windows/Linux systems. Now that I have my Powerbook I'm thinking of starting up a weekend project to try to write a device driver for the card to re-aquaint myself with programming.

Just wondering if anyone here has ever written a driver, and if so any tips/hints you might be able to share would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

I suggest looking at the documentation for IOKit.

I am getting to that (albeit more slowly than I would like). School and new baby are taking their toll. In the past I have found that no matter how good the documentation nothing can substitute for real world experience. There always seems to be one little trick that someone can share to make things go at least 50% easier than they would be for someone who has not done it before. I thought I might tap the experts here to find out a few of those tips preemptively.

Thanks.

Although there are developers on this forum, they tend to be a small minority. You'll notice that there isn't a developers' topic, per se. I've always found this a bit odd. Anyway, O'Rielly has Mac developers' content that's top notch:

Give it a spin.
