macOS Anyone know how to check if a process is running on remote mac?

I am writing a small Xcode application to control 5 ingest computers. I have a xcode Gui that allows users to select how many of the 5 machines they want to start, hitting record then fires applescripts that opens SSH communications to each machine and runs a local applescript on the machines to start recording and timestamp the file. What I would also like to be able to do is to provide real feedback that the units are recording. I am applescripting AJA VTR exchange which does not provide any feedback so the only way I can think of doing it is to look for the running thread but I am not sure how to go about this.
Does anyone have any pointers?

I would also go this way. Something like

ssh [I]computer_ip[/I] ps -C your_proccess_name

I'm not sure if the -C parameter works on OSX, I'm on Linux now.
