I have found settings for enabling it in the menubar but no settings to disable it. An hour long google/duckduck/bing search yielded no worthwhile results for me. I don't know if it is tied into siri now or if it is still a standalone shazam app buried somewhere in the OS. I just want to control when it is active or not.

“If the Shazam app is installed on your Mac, a second Shazam icon temporarily appears in the menu bar while Music Recognition is identifying the song.”

Otherwise it’s the macOS process /System/Library/Frameworks/ShazamKit.framework/shazamd
You can remove Music Recognition from the menu bar and the Control Center the same way you enabled it and reboot. The shazamd process should no longer be running. Insted of reboot, you can terminate the shazamd process from Activity Monitor.

Thank you. This is what I was trying to find. Not an elegant solution, but it appears to work.
