Nuisance at boot up. Anyone know what is causing these phantom icons "CC11"? I can eject them, but why is it happening?

Please give the output of Terminal command diskutil list
Also, what does Disk Utility show for the mount point? Select a volume in the side bar, mount it, and the mount point is in the main window.

I'm assuming that there's nothing on those images that you need. Right-click one and go to Get Info, then look at the "Disk image" field to see where the underlying image file is. If you don't need it, delete it: that's a sure-fire way of stopping it from popping back up. All five images are likely to be in the same place.

So you want me to delete the file(s). I can delete nothing in the Sequoia System Folder, unless you know a way. All I can do at present it EJECT the 5 icons every time I boot. Tell me how to delete, please!

I deleted all login items rebooted. Went to create a TEST Administrator Account, and After APPROVING the new TEST acct, Sequoia gave me a sixth CC11 Drive icon on the desktop. I haven't a clue why Sequoia did this. Does anyone?

To be fair, I didn't know it was in the System folder. I assumed it had come from elsewhere.

I have the same file, but it doesn't mount as CC11. Rather, it's the first of these. Maybe there are some tips in that thread.

I don't use beta system software. I wait when told to download. I just created 2 test accounts: 1. new Administrator, 2. regular non-administrator account. Nothing was loaded only default. I get 5 CC11 icons any time I boot into either. These are clean just created accounts. I WANT TO DELETE THE SYSTEM FILE. How do I get to it?

Thanks for the screenshots. These show that you are suffering the same problem as in https://forums.macrumors.com/thread...or-revival-and-all-end-with-_cryptex.2443437/

There is some variation in what people are seeing, but yours is the first mention of them being called CC11, etc.

Like you, I have a 19.1 Intel iMac with Sequoia 15.5. With early macOS 15.x I had three of these mounted, now it is only one! Running diskutil apfs list shows:
Code:
| Name: Creedence11M6270.SECUREPKITRUSTSTOREASSETS_SECUREPKITRUSTSTORE_Cryptex (Case-sensitive)
| Mount Point: /System/Library/AssetsV2/com_apple_MobileAsset_PKITrustStore/purpose_auto/6dd55b0d06633a00de6f57ccb910a66a5ba2409a.asset/.AssetData

Maybe your CC11 is a contraction of Creedence11, but don't ask me why!

Though 2 years old, this provides some background on the role of cryptexes https://eclecticlight.co/2023/04/05/how-cryptexes-are-changing-macos-ventura/.

You should not attempt to delete cryptexes as they are a method Apple uses to distribute software and are part of macOS.

If I Command+I 1 of 5, CC11 icons. I get the path below. Additionally, if I create a new user account there is 6th CC11 icon on my desktop:

System/Library/AssetsV2/com_apple_MobileAsset_PKITrustStore/purpose_auto/6dd55b0d06633a00de6f57ccb910a66a5ba2409a.asset/AssetData/Restore/SECUREPKITRUSTSTOREASSETS_SECUREPKITRUSTSTORE_Cryptex.dmg

Why do I need a dmg installer file for this Cryptex crap? I want to trash this dmg file. I don't care what it will do to the iMac, I am sick of these nuisance icons. Apple spent 2 hours with me today including senior tech. He is going to do more research and call me back Monday. I want in this dang System folder. Hope he will show me how.

You can safely delete all contents of /System/Library/AssetsV2/.
You have to disable SIP or from Terminal in Recovery.

SOLVED: CC11 drive icons stopped.
Steps:

Boot into repair mode (Apple+R)
Terminal: csrutil disable
Return
ReBoot normal
Follow path to DMG file: System/Library/AssetsV2/com_apple_MobileAsset_PKITrustStore/purpose_auto/6dd55b0d06633a00de6f57ccb910a66a5ba2409a.asset/AssetData/Restore/SECUREPKITRUSTSTOREASSETS_SECUREPKITRUSTSTORE_Cryptex.dmg

Delete:
SECUREPKITRUSTSTOREASSETS_SECUREPKITRUSTSTORE_Cryptex.dmg
Reboot into Repair Mode (Apple+R)
Terminal: csrutil enable
Return
Reboot normal

So far the drive icons CC11 have not returned. I do not install Beta's. I think some Apple system update installed this file, but failed to remove it.
