I was just wondering if anyone know what version of Python is in the latest build of Snow Leopard?

I'm planning on spending a lot of time over the summer learning Python and since I'll be doing it on a Mac I figured I should find out what version will be in the next OS before I decide whether to go down the 3.0 or 2.x route.

Thanks,
Jack

My guess is that at least the "main" python will be 2.x. At this point a lot of the most-used modules for Python have yet to make the transition to 3. Last I checked the general consensus was to wait until at least 3.1 to make the jump.

I am looking forward to the transition, and it might be that Apple will include both versions. But my bet is that the latest 2.x will be what comes up when you type "python --version". But it is still too early to tell. Apple can always change their mind, right up to the ship date.

You can download the latest Python from here. There's a little script you can run on the installer menu which will update your .bash_profile file so you can run Python from the terminal.
