Anyone leave their MBP plugged in working overnight?

Was going to leave my MBP plugged in and doing some work at home tonight while at work but that charger gets so hot. Just a bit nervous leaving the wife and animals alone in the house with that thing.

Wife is a heavy sleeper and has slept through the fire alarms before so.........well just felt a bit iffy and stopped my work for the night.

So does anyone que up some work and let it plug away while you are not there with no worries?
 
Mine's run for days at times. I wouldn't worry. Hot has to be quite hot to be incendiary.

Assuming you don't have one of the old batteries....
 
Guess the fear came from the pics of the melting of the older chargers and exposed wires.

Think the wire mess behind my tower is much more of a real problem than the heat from the MBP charger :eek:
 
The supply gets warm - but, I doubt much more than 100F (the "hot" spot in one corner was 110F, the rest was <100F). It's been on (machine awake) all day. The battery has been fully charged during that time, otherwise it might be a bit warmer. Still, there's no chance of fire from those temps.

The problems being reported lately most likely are the result of over stressed cables at the strain relief, resulting in a short.
 
I use my MacBook pretty much exclusively at my desk. It's plugged in almost 24/7. Relax. :)
 
My charger has been plugged in for a month now. Nothing to worry about.
 
My MBP had an uptime of +6 days- with the charger plugged in. It did get mildly warm, but nowhere close to being on fire.

Usually my MBP remains plugged in all throughout the night (and powered on). I then put it to sleep and take it to class. Return and plug it back in.

Occasionally I restart the machine to clear out the RAM, but other than that, it remains powered on for most of the time.
 
I've had my computer on the past two weeks straight during the night doing stuff, never worried about the charger getting too hot. Sure it gets kinda warm, but not enough to start a fire.

If you're that worried about a fire from your Mac, you might not want to use a computer period.
 
I've regularly used mine 24x7 and left it on overnight uploading/downloading stuff for most of the 18 months I've owned it. The PSU gets warm, but I've had PC laptops before that ran the PSU a lot hotter, (notably a P3 Dell which I passed onto family and is still going strong at 6+ years old)

I've no qualms about leaving the MBP turned on. I've got an iCurve stand which does help keep it that little bit cooler as the air can get to the underneath.

Well, I wouldn't quite go that far. If you're using a Macbook or MBP, you ought to be in the habit of checking your Magsafe for any signs of damage. There is only really one thing that ever catches on fire on most notebooks -- bad batteries. And that's been relatively well managed, and there should be few of those left on the streets. On the MB and MBP, there is a second thing that has been documented to catch on fire, so being careful is advisable. Not saying you shouldn't do it -- I leave my iBook plugged in all day all the time. But do be careful to make sure there's no sign of cord damage on your Magsafe.
 
I leave min plugged in almost all the time and on a desk,of course now i need a new logic board according to the genius bar.but i do not know wether it was heat or a bad logic board

Your mileage will vary
