I recently got a C2D refurb 1.83 mini with a combo drive.

I have a MPB with a superdrive, and am considering putting in a second HDD in the laptop, and removing the optical drive since I hardly ever use it.

I know the size of the 15" MPB drive is funky, but has anyone ever mounted one in a mini and had it work correctly without constant adjustment?

I ran a search, but did not find an instance of anyone actually doing this.

Tried it with my mbp 15 SuperDrive and my g4 macmini... Doesn't work :( its not that the drive is different, the connectors are the same. However the macbook pro's superdrive is a 9mm thick drive and the mini uses a 12mm drive. Because of this the mounting screws don't line up and it sits too low on one side. I'm pretty sure that the cd mini's will use the same form factor as the old ones and the fact that the 12mm drives would be cheaper.
