If you have made a move from a mini to the latest pro 10.5, would love to hear some thoughts, especially how you found the larger screen vs. the mini. I am using my mini mostly at home at night for internet, music, movies and thinking of upgrading. Thanks

I loved my mini 4 but as there’s no upgrade route to a mini 5 coming soon, I went for a 10.5.

I loved the mini size but I’ve quickly adapted back to the 10.5 (I had a Air 1 before the mini 4) so it was vaguely familiar.

The big thing I’m trying to use more is multitasking. The mini supported some features but the pro does them all and with iOS 11 it’s even better.

Whilst the pro was expensive, the mini 4 is still worth a bit on the resale market. Thanks to Brexit, I probably didn’t lose much as my mini was originally bought in the US last January and the exchange rate has changed a bit since.

I upgraded from a Mini 4 to 10.5, the speed is staggeringly different. I enjoy the speakers too. I only upgraded because I put my Mini in the laundry (inside the pocket of cargo pants). I don't miss the portability factor whatsoever because the 10.5" is so fast. I do have some Android 8" tablets like the Zenpad which has the screen size and PPI as the mini. I haven't had the urge to use those either. I ended up getting Smart Keyboard and pen.

I went from a mini 2 to a 10.5 I love it.
When I got the mini it was mostly for watching films on trains and playing games. I had for the last year been using it for reading study notes and it was not ideal for that purpose.
The 10.5 i find great in every way I live the pencil support, speed even the size. I almost wish I had gone for the next size up for writing on but I thi k it would be too big to use on the go.

Well, looks like i'm another one whose gonna make the move from an ipad mini to a 10.5" ipad pro. I really want to use the apple pencil to take notes and to draw with. I'm gonna wait until the iphone event next month tho to see if Apple announces an ipad mini pro. Not holding my breath, but Apple did announce the ipad mini 4 at the same event 2 yrs ago, so ya never know. If not, i'll definitely be nabbing the 10.5".

I have the mini as well as a G2 10.5 and G2 12.9'
The mini is still my favorite iPad out of all of them. It slimply works better as it is a more natural size and is comfortable to use.

If you want to watch movies, well I have a 70" device for that with ATMOS sound, so no iPad cuts it.

I dont have a 10.5" pro yet but wanted to chime in as my last iPad was the original iPad Mini. I basically stopped using the Mini once I bought an iPhone 6S Plus. There just wasn't that much of a size difference and my phone was more convenient and always connected to the internet.

I will be getting back into the iPad game and plan to get the 10.5" iPP and can't wait. Going with the LTE model too and think it will quickly become my most used device.

I think the major differences is with the Promotion display and obviously the larger user interface. But ultimately, both devices serve different needs and have different capabilities.

I did. Mini 2nd generation to the 10.5

especially how you found the larger screen vs. the mini
I found the larger screen to be gorgeous, While holding the 10.5 from using the mini took a little getting used too, it wasn't too bad and in a few hours I didn't notice the size/weight difference.

Going back to the mini, the interface and apps felt compacted and tiny, the 10.5 is a great tablet and the step up was a great move.

I went from a mini 4 to the 10.5. I like the bigger screen, awesome speakers, faster touch id, faster device overall and the pencil support. It charges slower than the mini and it's more expensive of course. But the only big downside is the extra weight, it's just too heavy to hold in one hand and it often feels heavy even with two hands. Overall I'm happy with the upgrade though.

The weight is really the major worry I have. My family member just got a galaxy tab s2 and while I have no intention of moving to Samsung it's just so lighter. Of course it is plastic on the back so that's the reason, but would be nice to have a larger screen and light device.

I felt the same way when I went from an iPhone 6 to a 6S Plus. It felt awkward at first and I had to adjust the way I held the phone to comfortably use it. However, as others have said, once you get over the initial awkwardness (because it is different from what you are used to), it feels natural and the larger screen just makes doing everything so much more pleasant. Now any time I do anything on my wife's non-plus iPhone it just feels so small and almost like a toy.

I do think that one handed use while in bed is going to be harder to do because you arm will fatigue much faster. However, I think the overall benefits of the 10.5" outweigh some of the cons. You can prop up the ipad on your belly for support or use two hands, etc.

I think you will get used to it. It's annoying sometimes but you just have to do some small adjustments on how you're holding it, such as resting it in your lap if sitting, or on your chest in bed. Because it's larger you don't have to keep it as close to your eyes as the mini (at least for me). You will love the bigger screen and better speakers especially for movies. And the extra speed is great for content heavy webpages.

Before I had mini 4, mini 2, ipad 3, ipad 2.

I still use both. The mini is ideal for reading books.

I also like the fact you can use it one-handed without becoming fatigued with holding it. The other iPads usually require two hands for me if it's not being used on a stand or on the table.

I actually prefer a kindle, while its true I initially purchased the Mini for reading (among other things), the kindle paper white does such a good job, that I had stopped using the mini as my reading device.

One thing that I love about the mini is the paper white display and the e-ink which offers a crispness in the letters, that no iPad can match.

I'm a dual iPad owner with a Mini 4, previously 9.7" models, and currently 12.9". The mini to me is the ultimate consumption device. It has the best PPI of all of the iPads. It's great for reading books or Internet, time waster games, even short videos. I also use mine as a remote for iTunes, my AV receivers, TV with the respective manufacturer's apps. It's a perfect device to keep docked in the family room.

OTOH I enjoy the bigger screen iPads for writing/note taking, editing PDFs, brainstorming -- things you might do on a regular size sheet of paper or computer screen. I don't really see the mini as a competitor to the other iPads. It's the eyeglass screwdriver kit whereas the bigger iPads are regular size screwdrivers.

This is a nice analogy that is becoming even more true with iOS11. Apple's emphasis on multitasking and productivity (while de-emphasizing consumption) puts the Mini at a clear disadvantage and/or makes it the special-uses model.

I've made note several times of the fact that the Mini is the exact same physical size as my Kindle Keyboard. There's something about the dimensions that are perfect for reading and one-handed use. Any other iPad feels clumsy in comparison when used this way.
