Anyone one working as a designer/art editor in magazine publishing?

Does anyone on here work as a designer for a magazine? Or an art editor/art director. I am a student currently looking for work experience in this area and I would love to pick your brains and get some advice. IMHO you'd be much better in posting this question on LinkedIn, it's much more professionally aimed and with a full profile you would be more likely to gain employment and/or work experience.

Personally I find LinkedIn to be very useful for work, establishing and nurturing professional network, the BIG bonus it's not geographically bias either.
