Anyone own a Sony AIBO

They are very cool. It's like a Puppy, and you train it. It sounds like a childish toy, but it is very realistic.hookahco said:

After playing with one for a while in John Lewis (department store in London), I was convinced I wanted one. Even the price tag didn't put me off...
My reasoning was that I can't have a real pet where I live and that this might be a fun toy. Then after a couple of days, I just realised that I would probably get bored with it after a while and besides, it's not very cuddly.
There are cheaper imitations out there but when you see one of these in action, they certainly have an immediate but superficial appeal.
I'll wait for Revision C, the one that can fetch the shopping for me.

I have an older one, from 2000... pretty cool, very lifelike (not as much as the new ones, which charge themselves and respond to a lot more commands). His name is Roark.
Sadly, something broke in his neck, and if he puts his head down, he can't lift it up again and he turns himself off. I haven't gotten around to figuring out what needs to be done to fix this (or if it's worth the money... Sony parts can be VERY expensive).

I don't have one, but I've seen them a few times in stores in Japan (also once in San Francisco). VERY cool, but in the end they're still just toys, and I'd much rather have a real dog for the money. Still, it's pretty amazing to throw a ball and see the AIBO go over and pick it up for the first time.
They are about 2000 USD or something. But, if you buy 10 at once, you can get them for 1000 a piece... Still a lot of money, but I still want one!! Maybe we can order them all together?!?

I couldn't even afford one for $1000.
My brothers girlfriend has one. We were making fun of her for the price till we found out my brother has spent $1,300 in one year on his dog. She got it cuz she can't have dogs at her place, and she loves techie things. Its still in the "puppy" stage so its not as fun, doesn't respond to everything.
I also love pets, but am allergic to cats and live alone and am away a lot. At least with an aibo you have an off switch!

They need an Aiko robotic cat.
I'm late to this but I am an aibo enthusiast. But if apple made a robot dog, It would indeed beat aibo into a stew

Oh nice! There was a new model released in 2018 originally in white, 2019 a chocolate brown color, 2020 a caramel color, 2021 a black sesame "grey" color and this year a pink strawberry milk model. The joy of aibo is not that it replaces real pets, but aibo is a fully autonomous robot and not a toy! Aibo learns, plays and expresses "real emotions and instincts" according to sony! They are expensive but they are definitely worth it over time. It may be a robot, but like a real puppy it doesn't know everything. Aibo was originally released in 1999 and new models where released every year until the year 2006. Aibo was always known as a dog but models like the ers 210 where actually based off LION CUBS! But was still referred to as a dog because of it's puppy like appearence and playful behaviour! 🐶About 17 years late it appears

We are not allowed to own or use one in Illinois! Had an original one, worked great, when Sony released new one, all excited and then due to Illinois security laws, they were banned for sale or ownership.
I know, sad. Because Illinois doesn't seem to trust facial recognition much. But aibo doesn't record video or audio but does use facial recognition to learn and develop. I don't actually know if the older aibos like the ers 110, ers 111, ers 210/ers220, ers 31x "latte, macaron and pug" or the Aibo ers 7s where ever sold in Illinois?
