This is for a friends brother who is doing animation and going into 3rd year. We are in the UK so his budget for a laptop is £500-600. I have already said that IMO that isn't near enough of a price range to get something decent for what he needs, I'd argue desktop aswell. But I want to know what you all think, he will be running programs like Maya, After Effects, Photoshop, Flash, etc.

So anyone have experience with these programs on a laptop in that price range or know what might be a good laptop for that money. I've tried looking but nothing I've found seems up to it.

Would it be good enough just to set up the scene, then he can load it on the Uni's computers for rendering??

Shall it be a Mac or is a Windows PC the goal?

It needs at least a dedicated GPU for Maya and AE, or a very good IGP (no Intel crap).

Agree about graphics and no preference for mac or PC but think it'll be hard finding a mac that price.
