I actually, just bought mine yesterday from Verizon. Just got shipped. Delivery Wednesday.

There's not really a pros/cons unless you buy with the 36-month plan. If you bought full price, the iPad will come unlocked similar to Apple. Can use with any carrier. M4 iPads come with eSIM

This is the first time, I am separating from my phone carrier for tablet. My iPhone is on T-Mobile, with iPad on VZ. I'm very curious to see the 5G speeds. I did go with the basic 5G/4G unlimited for $80, but may upgrade to the $90 [for $10 extra] depending on the speeds of the basic unlimited.

I’m curious, have you tried installing another carrier’s eSIM on your M4?

The last time I bought an iPad from Verizon (Air 3), the nano SIM was unlocked but the eSIM was locked to Verizon.

I won't be able to know for sure until it gets delivered. I'm not sure what the initial set-up looks like on cellular iPads.

I know with Apple Watch, it does say you can skip initial cellular set up and do after. I imagine, you can set up another eSIM with another carrier.

I’ve tried installing another eSIM on my Air 3 (2019) before. The only carrier that shows up in Settings - Cellular Data is Verizon. When I tried manual install via QR code, it said not compatible. That was back when all their phones were shipping unlocked, no 60 day SIM lock like there is now.

The physical SIM slot was unlocked though so I could just use that for local SIM when traveling.

After that experience, I always just bought my iPads unlocked. The $150 discount going with carrier wasn’t worth the restrictions. I’m curious to know if the situation has changed with newer iPads.

Wait how much in data are you paying per month? I thought it was only around $10/month for data?

I'm considering adding an M4 Pro to our Verizon account once we switch back.

On T-Mobile, devices are automatically unlocked once they're paid off. Can someone please clarify if the iPad would be unlocked once it's paid off in 36 months? Or will it only ever be compatible with Verizon? What about iPhones?

Once payed off, the about setting will show whether the device is locked or unlocked.

You may have to double confirm the carrier once payed off. Could take a couple of days to register.

I believe tablets are universal when it comes to carriers (unlike iPhones). iPads come with the same 4G/5G bands.

Interesting. I decided to order a Nano version, but going to take a month to ship.

One of the reasons is I have a verizon family account and pay for insurance. The Ipad gets adding without any other cost and if I lose, break, etc, it is covered.

I think I am going to get the 15 per month data plan, which is the 5G ultra. For what this thing costs, I might has
well try to get the best option for service. I use this for streaming via twitch volleyball games, and a lot of the events
the cell tower is overloaded. Hoping that maybe 5G ultra might give me an edge. If not, I use various hot spots
to wifi. These seem to work better than trying to hotspot to my phone

Verizon unlocks their Apple devices after 60 days. ATT keeps them locked until pad off. I also bought the 512GB M4 iPad Pro 13in from Verizon on PreOrder. I had no problems with it and I love it.
