First off is it in fact a new model number on the packaging? If you dont know what one is verse the other just post the model number and I will compare. We havent received any of the new ones in yet or I would check myself. Now for the more adventurous. Now I am not much of a speculator at all (i know and I come to a place called MacRumors) but I am wondering if this whole new packaging is just that and a price drop or if any hardware was changed even if not apparent on the outside. Seeing how Sata drives have now dropped lower inprice than most Patas I am wondering if the drives inside were switched. So if anyone has a new one and is courageous enough please post up what a find.

I got mine Friday. It's in the new packaging and was purchased at the new price. That part number on the box is MA711LL/A . I have to say I was disappointed that it shipped with 1.1, so I'm waiting for the upgrade just like everyone else.

Ok so the model number has not changed nor has the revision number. So I cant imagine any hardware has been changed.

Foget what I said. My didn't come in the new packaging. I had to go back and look at the box on the site again.

Question still stands .... this is the new packaging.

no one will get the new packaging until the new software is released. i bought one yesterday at the apple store and they confirmed again there is no hardware change, the specs are the same. don't know if they will give it a new model number, but if they do there will be no advantage to it. the only benefit, as they told me, is that it will already have the new software on it (hence the fact that no one will get it until the software is released.)

Funny thing, I just went to where I found that image of the new boxing and it is no longer shown on the apple site. Yes I agree there is no apparent hard ware changes but always a possibility my company could have changed something that made no diffeence on the outside or functionality but could help them with the price reduction we gave. Just curious.
