Anyone recently purchace an alum iMac 20" over the 24"?

I'm considering buying one online at the apple store since the closest Apple brick and mortar store is 2.5 hours away, and I won't be able to see the computer in person. Any problems with the screen v/s the 24" when you guys previewed them at the Apple store? Money is not the issue, ,I could buy either, I just don't know if I want a jumbo screen on my desk. My use would be casual browsing, family photo and video editing, that sort of stuff.

We've just bought one for the office. Yes, the screen on the 24" is a little better, but the 20" is still more than adequate for most purposes and still better than the majority of cheaper stand-alone screens out there. Unless you're really fussy about your photo editing, I'd say go for it!

I agree. I bought the 20 inch and it is a great computer.
 
I bought the 20". The only color shifting I have is when I am not infront of the screen. So it was no big deal for me. 24" was way to big for my desk. I love the 20"!
 
Just get the baseline 20" and max out the Ram.. for the extra $600 you spent on the extra 4 inches you can get 4GB of RAM a 1TB HD and pocket $200 :)
 
Finally some positive comments! I'm gonna order tomorrow as I rang the sales line tonight and turns out it would work out really cheap for a 2.4 20" with Wireless keyboard and mouse plus AppleCare with the Further Ed discount (Which I can get as I'm staff at a FE college).

I looked at one in PCWorld Thursday evening and the gradient didn't really stick out as much as I remember it doing so at the Apple store!

24" is way too big for my needs, 20" fits perfectly on the space I plan to put it..
 
Thanks for all the replies! I'm ordering my new 20" 2.4 w/500 gb hd tonight, along w/ a 4gb RAM upgrade from Crucial. Can't wait to get it!

Me to,
I just looked at the desk etc that I had and came to the conclusion that the 24 was just to big.

I am very happy with my purchase. I don't have any screen issues that I am aware of.

Good pick. I ordered mine last weekend, and received it today. Was surprised it was shipping direct from China. I am mainly a PC user, but so much is happening with the Mac's I wanted to join in. Now just waiting for my Leopard to ship. That was actually my main reason for getting one, and I love it. This is actually my second post using it.

The wireless keyboard will take some getting used to since it is pretty small, but I use a small laptop at work, so I should get used to it pretty quickly.

i bought the 20" as well, although I am noticing the washed out appearance and want a remedy....
 
To fix the washed out appearance, calibrate in system prefs.

The colour difference between the top and bottom of the screen is a characteristic of the panel. After a few days you don't notice it.
 
yeah I had a 20" for about a week and to me it was pretty big.. compared to my 19" dell... maybe becasue of the widescreen? Anyways now I have a 24" and it's quite lovely :p
 
I would never do that after purchasing a 20'' imac over the 24'' a year ago. The bigger screen is definately worth the extra cost.

I am currently using the Adobe RGB (1998).... It is good, but I think I can do better.

Do you have any tips on using the expert calibration? An .icc file maybe?
 
I got the 24"

Well I bought the 24" as thats what the wife pointed her finger at (lucky me as that what I was hoping). I took it out of the box and when placing it on the desk thought "my god that's massive". Desk is not exactly small, some how it did not look that big against the 20" in the shop - funny that! Anyway, I can with say with no doubts that I am happy I got used to it, no problems with the screen so far as reported in the forums here. All the screen realestate is a bonus, great for looking at the digital photos on... just love my new iMac!
