Anyone reversed to Lion?

I'm wondering whether anyone who's used Mountain Lion since release has decided to go back to Lion?

My MacBook Pro 13" (Early 2011) really struggled with Mountain Lion. This is even with 8GB RAM. I noticed ML had to work really hard and I never got the battery life after 7 or 8 cycles like I did with Lion. Even doing very light work on web browsing (minus Flash) and using low resourced programs (even on idle, the battery was much warmer than when I had it running on Lion); I had 2 hours slashed off the battery life. When I started to push with Flash and do some basic photo editing, it went further down into 2.5 - 3 hours.

I did the same with Lion when it first appeared and it seems to take two or three major updates to sort itself out. My feeling is that ML is optimised for anything that runs on SSD or minimum the 15" models that have extra battery and dedicated video graphics.

Can I uninstall Mountain Lion and go back to Lion?

I have the same MBP model as you. Although I do have an SSD, I've run Lion and ML from slow external 5400RPM drives for days on end with little issues (other than the understandably longer boot times/access times of course).

As far as relying a dot-zero release of an operating system... well, you deserve the consequences of that decision

Every subsequent OSX update will continue to demand more resources. No surprise there.

Hmmmmm. The only reason I reversed last time was down to the way Lion worked. I don't seem to remember having the same problems as I did with Mountain Lion. I know it's two major OS upgrades since it was released with Snow Leopard and expect a little performance downgrade. Not as much as I was seeing though. Maybe it's time I did look at replacing the ugly slow 5400RPM HD.

I'm going to rerun Lion for a few weeks and see if I get the same issues.

Rubbish, im running it on my old 2008 iMac with 4 gigs of ram with no issues, runs better then lion and it screams on my 2011 MBA. Do a fresh install if your having issues.

I must admit, it was an upgrade rather than a fresh install. I just kept seeing the CPU jumping, even when idling.

And people still say Lion was Apple's Vista...not by a loooooong shot.

What processes were running? If you Mac was running, and you say ML is to blame, at least let us know what the details are.

I saw people do clean installs because an installation kicked off some chron stuff that had somehow got neglected; in their case, spotlight indexing. So they concluded the Mac was too slow and reinstalled SL...only to have it also reindex spotlight. They didn't know.

So what specifically was slowing it?

I'm thinking of going back to Lion due to how Mountain Lion handles second monitors in portrait mode. Swiping between desktops makes the monitor in portrait mode shudder and stutter like crazy. Switching the monitor to standard landscape mode makes the problem go away.
