Here is a history as to the start of the problems:

Phone got wet by sitting in a cup holder that had coffee in it (about 2 months ago).

Phone, after drying in rice, worked for a couple of weeks to a month and then just shuts down or coma'd in sleep mode. "Home + power buttons", power, home, etc will not respond (so it is not the normal coma mode). I cannot get is out of this and just have to wait the amount of time it decides. It does it several times a day now. Phone will not turn on until plugged into computer and then it is real sporadic when it wants to. When it does this, it can do it for 10 minutes on up to 18 hours. It worked for 2 days straight and then went back to this cycle of not working.

Every once in a while screen goes white then lines of colors. Reboot eventually fixes this when it decides it wants to turn back on.

When phone is on and working it seems to not have problems and makes calls well, wi-fi works good, mms etc. I have loaded software several times so now if feel it is a hardware problem.

This is an iphone 2g unlocked and jailbroke with 3.1.2 custom software and baseband left at 4.

Thanks.

Light Shed - you have water coffee damage. Get a new phone, Apple will collect the $200 for you.

The problem you have is when you spill liquid on your phone even after drying it out the liquids contents be it sugar or even plain water continues to eat away at the inside of your phone.

I just got off the phone with Apple and they are sending the $199 replacement. I was just surprised that it worked for a couple of weeks with no problems and then went out to lunch.

Thanks for the replies. I guess I have to learn to keep my coffee away from it.

One more question. Once it decides to turn on today, I need to get it ready to send. All I need to do is just restore in Itunes and erase all settings on mine, right? I don't want any evidence of unlock and jailbreak. I got the phone from ebay quite a while ago so I am just surprised they are taking it.

Restore as a new phone. I took my to apple after restoring from backup and their computer showed that it had been jailbroken. Ironically the Genius told me to restore it as a new iPhone to avoid this, he did it in store, warned me about jailbreaking then replaced my iPhone.
