I had wrote about it in a post a few days ago my neighbor still was using hers. Well she called me this morning saying her iPad would not start. I tried everything but it’s dead. She used It last night and said she thought she was tired but the screen blinked on and off a few times. So I got my iPad Pro. Showed her on Apples site the Air 3. She wanted Face ID. So she ended up ordering a freaking 12.9 Pro 256!!!! An Apple Pencil, and an extra charger.
She says after seeing all they can do and such she will likely never use her desk top pc again. All she uses it for is quicken, amazon and email. Plus it’s a old old Pentium 2. 😳. Has a 20 gig drive with only 3 gigs used. And so she is very excited. Has to wait till May 8th. I will help her get it set up.

Wow, props to her for using her first-generation for pretty much 10 years! I always love to hear stories like these, how the iPad has really changed and affected the computing lives of people. It comes to show that the iPad is perfect for so many people.

It'll be a very happy day when she receives her new iPad. 👍

That's just a bit over $100 per year if she uses the iPad Pro as long as her old iPad. 😁

How was she able to install apps on her 1st generation iPad?

She only used the browser for reading news papers and books through the kindle app. And she has one heck of music collection. 76 years old and listens to classical to modern country.

LOL I was going to ask how she wasn’t even a little aware of some of the new things iPads can do, but then I saw this and it made sense.

It’s always interesting learning about various perspectives. There are young people out there who are unaware too just because of their lifestyle choices. Nothing negative. Just always an interest.

My grandmother is 90 and just got upgraded from an iPad 3 to new iPad Air (don’t know model, but it was bought brand new and latest model near the end of 2019). Before her iPhone and iPad she never even used computers. Had no interest.

I have now an iPad Pro 11" 2018, but I also maintain working my first iPad 1. I use it mainly to listen to music and to play some old games like Electrotrains and Sudoku. It works perfectly, but awfully slow

A little off topic, but to your point my brother still uses his 2011 MBP just for his audio files for his music system setup. Nothing else. It just connects to his setup and he's on his way........

In some way, old Macs seems less remarkable. My mother still uses her 2010 MBP although I just bought her a NOS 10.5" Pro.

Forgot to update this. She has had her Pro 12.9 for a couple of weeks and loves it. She has put quite a few apps on it. She loves Noteability, News, and several others. But most of all how “wicked fast” it is. We got her Microsoft license issue figured out so she has all her outlook and office stuff from her PC transferred and so it’s completely up and running. She is thinking when she cashes her stimulus check of getting the Magic Keyboard. The best part is she threw out her old PC. So if a 75 year old can figure out how to set up shortcuts on her own and other things anyone can.

But the best statement she made was the best part of her day is sitting on her patio with a glass of wine and her iPad. Got to love it.
