Other Anyone switch from X/XS to smaller iPhone?

I have an iPhone X. It does everything I need it to. However, it is still slightly too big for my liking. I really miss the feel of the smaller iPhone 6 that I used to have. I've honestly been contemplating selling my X and going to an iPhone 7 or 8, maybe even the SE. However, with rumors of a possible SE2 sometime in the near future, maybe I should wait it out.

Has anyone else made this move? Did you regret it?

The OP said ‘Possible’, meaning it _could_ happen. It Doesn’t necessarily mean it will happen for a future SE.

Apple has had recent clearance sales for the iPhone SE, three of them to be exact, I would continue to monitor the front page of MacRumors, and you might be able to find one for $250. Otherwise between the iPhone 7 and 8, they’re both very similar in features with the 4.7 inch model, I would probably opt for the 7, just because it is inexpensive and is still plenty efficient with the A-10 fusion processor.

I’m switched from iPhone X to iPhone 8. I’m also tried XsMax for a week. I’m used to big phones last years (ip8 plus, Note 9) But...

But My last opinion for a smartphone is; it is just a simple connection tool & gateway to my cloud data. Not more. So, it’s main feature should be convenience and simplicity for me.

I have iPad Pro & MacBook Pro for serious things and media consumption. if the iPhone is only iOS device for me maybe bigger options is way to go. But now, i’m very happy for my decision. iPhone 8 is beatiful device for me. Touch ID, A11, great lcd, form factor etc.

I went from the X to an SE last week. No regrets at all. It is so awesome to have a pocketable one handed device again. iPhone 6-Xs are all too big. Give me the SE sized chassis in a X design, which would end up being an LCD screen ala iPhone Xr using a 4.7" 324ppi edge to edge screen at 693x320pts and 1386x640px with @x2 rendering) and I'd buy 4, one each for the whole family.

Alternatively an OLED 4.7" 487ppi edge to edge screen at 693x320pts and 2079x960px @x3 rendering if they want me to pay a premium. I would pay it too...

I went from a X to the 8, then to the SE, and now to the 4S. I don’t need a big phone to just text and call people on. If I need other stuff I’ll use my iPad or MacBook.

I switched from 5S to 6 to 7 to 8 to X to 8 to SE. I made prior threads on this. Recently, I acquired a second SE just in case we never see a 4" iPhone made again. I'm set for next several years. All the new iPhones are simply too big for my taste. The SE fits anywhere and offers true practicality around daily one-hand usage.

The SE gets a lot of hate around here for no good reason. Most people argue that Apple won't update the SE because, allegedly, it wouldn't sell well. However, what they don't realize is that many diehard SE owners are willing to fork out a good amount for an updated SE.

Would I pay $999 for an iPhone XS shrunk down to the size of the SE? - Yes, I would pay that much today.

I primarily use an iPad Pro 11”, so my Xr almost seems redundant. If a new SE comes along, or even if I find a good deal on a used one, I may take the plunge and “downgrade”. I miss the industrial edges and small size quite a bit.

8 is the size sweet spot for me, i had a silver 8 before my XR but didn't like the white front, the XR was too good to refuse was a clean swap.
If they could make one fullscreen with FID would be good, same weight and thickness.

I have had the X and XS Max too.

Big iPad Pro 12.9 with lots of storage.
Little iPhone SE sized thing for when you can not take that.

Obviously the SE camera lacks a lot of the sharp details and color of later iPhones, but it works fine for sending through Facebook messenger or iMessages. It's all about the size and form factor that I keep going back to the SE (over my 6s Plus)

I use an XS and SE, share a sim between the two. I never have any issues being on the SE. In fact if Apple could take everything from the X.. XS, put it in the SE body size.. done deal for me. I use to use PLUS devices all the time, but I hated taking them with me everywhere. So I bought an SE just to have for when I go out to dinner or baseball games. The thing still has lots of power and a nice camera. I only have the 16gb edition and honestly that is all I need for a secondary device. Like I said, if Apple were to make SE2 with all the X, XS features or at least most I'd buy the biggest memory version i could and never look back. But when the SE2 is made, it's just going to be a spec bump.. no notch or anything like that. Probably throw in wireless charging but that device isn't what Apple wants hanging around all the time. They need to upsell.. you know cause they don't have any money...

Yes, I recently switched back to the iPhone SE. I was lucky enough to be able to grab one when Apple put them on clearance. I've been a fan of Apple products since the early 80's but that is coming to an end.
I am tired of these gargantuan IPhones. They are heavier, thicker, and are not comfortable in a pocket.
That aside, they aren't special any longer. They follow in features and capabilities from the likes of Samsung and HTC.
Just my two cents, but after buying a new iPhone every year since they originally came out, I am done until Apple makes one that is reasonable in size, like the SE.
By the way, there are rumors of a new Motorola Razor coming out. If that turns out to be true and it is roughly the same size as the original, I may be done with iPhones altogether.
My advice to Tim Cook & Apple is to lead, follow, or get the hell out of the way.
Apple (under Tim Cook) has lost sight of their guiding principle: "Think Different". Instead, their new tag line should be something like, "we're just different".

I do a lot of content consumption on my phone (often preferring it to my TV), but I just haven't gotten used to the size of the XS Max like I thought I would. Not going to one of the pre-X phones, but I'm definitely moving to the X/XS size next year.

I agree. The camera is very competitive even with the latest iPhones in good light, but it shows its age as soon as conditions are not optimal. Overall, for my purposes, which is to document my family’s lives and create home video projects, I am satisfied. On the video side, it is extremely good, 4K @30 and 1080p @120 slow motion, and better performance in varying conditions than the still pictures.

However, that said, of everything this is probably the only area where the SE actually is wanting.

I think the camera is the SE’s weakness. It takes great pictures when conditions are optimal, but when they are not optimal, the lack of OIS, optical zoom, and good low light performance are sorely missed, especially in video recording. But for me, not as sorely missed as having a small phone.

I will switch the minute my SE2 preorder arrives, assuming it is full screen, current internals, and preferably wireless charging, but I don't see the advantage in going from the X to a 6/7/8 sized device. They are so close in size and you give up so much screen. That, to me, wouldn't be worth it.
