I want to know if anyone has tested the netflix app outside the U.S? Just asking because I am in another country, but have a netflix account, and an iTunes U.S store account! It would be nice if it doesn't have a region check, does it? Thanks

I would like to know too. It would be great for international travel. :D

I know, I really wish someone would test it.

Also can anyone confirm that there is VPN and how well it works on the iPad??

It doesn't work. I work at Tim Hortons and when I tried to show it off at work I got the streaming not available outside of the us. Same thing happens with the abc app. Btw - we use a Canadian wireless service if you're wondering why it said that to me here in Connecticut.

Ok thanks a lot! It still has VPN though right??? As I can still get around it with that.

VPN is Virtual Personal Network.

Open settings/general/network and tell me if you see it. I would like to know, as I am not getting my iPad until the end of the month. If you have a server in the states you can route your internet using vpn through it, then you will have a U.S IP and all sites will think you are in the states, including netflix, hulu, etc. ;)

I never had any luck running Netflix through a VPN while I was living in China, although Slingplayer usually worked OK. Everything slows down when going through the great firewall.

If you don't have your own privater server, then yes it is very slow. :(

what VPN service do you use? I bought witopia and am thinking about trying that out in a week or so when I fly back to China.

anyone wanna take a paypal payment and split an account ?

I called NetFlix and asked - they said they are not able to stream anywhere outside of the US at this time (licensing issues). Big bummer for me, that was the second App I downloaded after iBooks

I was looking forward for Netflix to fix this, but this is due to the content licensing/distribution issues. Not an easy fix, I'm afraid. Very unfortunate.

I tried several of the $10-$20 variety, but none really improved my web download speed or access much. Some sights would load but not all features could be utilized. When I tried Netflix it would not operate through the VPN.

My best luck was using internet from my cable modem in my apartment. Not nearly as many users per server as most other options (DSL). Slingplayer would run at 600K-800K which was very good for watching sports. I also had no luck going through Hong Kong ISPs on the mainland.

Good luck, China is never simple.

I have used UKiVPN for over a year now and they've been rock solid. Their plans have changed a bit since I subscribed and they now allow for individual areas at a lower price rather than all areas for a higher price. You could get their US VPN service and that would resolve your geolocation issues.

I frequently stream off the BBC iPlayer or ITV in the UK or CTV and the CBC in Canada. During the Olympics I streamed all my viewing from CTV's Olympics site as the coverage was much better than the US. It looked quite good on a 50" Panny plasma.
