I'm in Canada and want to buy the GS4 with the Exynos Octa. Does anyone know if Samsung sells their phones carrier free? Also, where would my updates come from since I wouldn't have a carrier phone?

The updates would come from Samsung, I suppose. And in theory, they'd come sooner than carrier-versions, me thinks?

I, too, am interested in where I can buy unlocked S4's...

The galaxy phones are available carrier free. As for the updates, you can use their Kies software (or alternatives such as Odin or Heimdell) to download and install any available update or flash to custom ROMs.

If you're gunning for the Exynos version of the S4, you're gonna have to scour the net for the Korean version as that will be the "fully loaded" model.

Do you know the confirmed frequency bands for this phone? I'm on Wind Mobile in Canada. We run the same frequency as T-Mobile. Except we don't have any LTE at the moment. I'm hoping the Exynos version is compatible with my network.

Fully loaded model?

Loaded with Exynos 8 core (big.little) and PowerVR GPU as opposed to the 4 core Snapdragon with Adreno 320 I assume.

Nope, he means that the Korean version is the only Exynos 5 Octa -based SGS4 variant that comes with LTE support. The international version supports only 3G networks.

Thanks. :) Gotcha... So Samsung are actually building three SKU's.......
(Excluding solid state storage differences as well)...

Expansys is a joke.

They sell a galaxy s 2 for $549? A nexus 4 for $449 but a galaxy nexus for $499?

I wonder who are the guys who keep getting ripped off by expansys.

you can of course! not confirmed but i hear the sim free price is going to be US $579. Expansys-usa or exapnsys is a pretty good vendor to buy from.
