Has anyone tried this who had an original phone?

Put the 3G card into your old EDGE phone.

iTunes activates it and converts you to the old $20 data plan.

Unlock the 3G phone and put the card back in it.

I thought it might be a neat thing to try, but was curious if anyone else has?

Outside of a couple iffy sim card hacks, there's no unlock for the 3g yet.

So no one has tried that yet. :)

You're a little off.

What you would want is the SIM from the original iPhone. Activate it, then place it in your 3G iPhone. From what I understand, the original iPhone only accepted certain AT&T SIM's, but the 3G accepts all AT&T SIM's. I tried an activated one from a Tilt in the 3G and it worked fine.

The only flaw in your plan is that it is my understanding that AT&T no longer offers the $20 iPhone plan, even if you buy and activate an old iPhone.

Thank you Sir. I did think I read that AT&T said family who you give the old phone to would get the old plan, but I guess I'm wrong, and maybe the other stuff would be hard to do too.
